Aside: What do (you) think of the PS (portable/hand held)...?

Don't get a PSP-Go(f*k yourself).

Other than that, get a 1000 or 2000 series and root it - you can then run whatever you damned well please on it, up to and including Gameboy games and Linux.

"root it" is an odd choice of terms, I think he was referring to custom firmware, which won't run on the 3000 series or the PSP go - that allows you to actually run any code on it rather than just sony-signed code

exactly.

An odd choice of words perhaps, but an accurate one nevertheless.

Not quite, "root it" usually refers to installing a rootkit, not installing a new OS

The CF gives root access, does it not?

Yes, but "rooting" usually means installing a rootkit, NOT simply gaining root access

Umm, what about the PS 3000?
can a game that (only) works on the Ps3000 be made to work on my Wii or dsi...?

...No, if it's a PSP game it's incompatible with your Wii or DSI.

I know I am hopelessly ignorant - you can give up.

If you have root access to your PSP, then you can emulate Gameboy Advance games downwards on it.

I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

If I offended you, please let me know via pm. I tend to do it without realizing it. I can be clueless as to how my humor comes across. Please be nice about it.

RE: PS3 owners - attention

He hasn't released it yet, but basically he claims that he's been able to hack the PS3's firmware and install a custom version which allows you to still make use of newer games and the PSN while being able to keep OtherOS/linux.

If he has managed to reverse engineer sony's hashing algorithm (which isn't a standard algorithm) then this is definitely possible, but i'm deeply skeptical by this point as he has refused to release it.
