I'm on vacation, sitting in my hotel lobby, the only place I get wifi.  Wondering what the celebration is today that makes people wear pink hats and pink boas in marching bands flying flags and NOT WORKING!!!!!

I'm thinking that my son's new skipping rope is really too long, and hoping that he remembers not to skip on the steps or he'll fall down them.

RE: random thoughts

Right this moment, I am thinking about how much easier it would have been for me if I had taken my percocet 1 hour before the home health-care nurse had arrived to change the dressing (peel tape off sensitive skin, remove packing from 2 cm wound, re-pack, re-tape) on this boil I've had on my arse for the past week.

Now however, I'm feeling no pain, having taken the percocet just as she arrived. That was an hour ago. Nap time now, I think.

I'm thinking about how great it is to be getting over my chest cold so quickly, and how fortunate we are to be living in a time of antibiotics and stuff. However, I also do fear that if we keep using antibiotics, like overusing them, that we'll get huge superbugs and as Dr. House said they'll have to put Zithromyacin in the water supply.

RE: random thoughts

Right now, I'm obsessing over a book that I ordered recently from England, which will probably not come for a very long time now, because of transatlantic flights being cancelled because of the Icelandic volcano. I'm also currently scolding myself for being upset about the book, because it's nothing compared to the people who have to fly across the ocean for an urgent reason ( such as a death in the family ) and now cannot, or people from that area of Iceland who might lose their homes. I'm trying to distract myself from all of these  feelings by looking up odd facts in Wikipedia.

I am sitting here, pretending I am cleaning the house. I would like to be sleeping, but of course that would require that I get up and walk through the house I need to clean, thus breaking the spell of sloth the computer is blessing me with Smile

If flights have to remain cancelled for a significant time (months); it might provide entreprenurial opportunities for shipping companies or cruise lines.  Nobody ever thinks of crossing the Atlantic in a ship for practical reasons anymore.  Depending on the latest ship technology (and, not being into boats, I'm merely speculating) it might be possible to cross the Atlantic much quicker than say 60 years ago.

Pretty much, the world economy is in a recession.  I can infer that there may be cruise lines with fewer patrons.  Or there may be shipping companies with idle ships.  If it gets to be, say, two years before trans-Atlantic flights can safely be made again; such cruise lines and shipping companies could fill a niche.  Although crossing the Atlantic on the surface may take much longer than flying, it would still be better than no options at all for those who need to get home or for other matters important enough.
