I "felt" that moment when I read your words....
My God what a beautiful child.. what a lovely (mental and physical) picture you shared...
The worlds is a MUCH better place - because of you, the father, and him, the son...
Thanks for sharing!
(ahem, my now 13 yr old son has perfect pitch...music is magical from the mouths of babes)

I don't know how I'd handle a kid. It is so scary to me.

Being a parent is scary. I doubt that anyone has every been 100% prepared to become a parent.
Odd thing, though ... nearly every so-called 'expert' that ever advised me on how to be a better parent was either childless, a grandparent or an alcoholic. The few parents with underaged children that ever advised me on parenting gave advice that conflicted somehow with every other parent.
I'm just glad my kids did not end up on the unemployment rolls, in a prison, in a wheelchair or dead.

I must be odd becasue I have heard that many people feel "worried' about being a parent - oh the responsibility.... and all that
I don't think I wasted a minute wondering (before child was born) after is different... instead of worrying, I research, and do.

I hope that is how I will be, it is in other aspects of life. Otherwise I'll be a wreck, it will be one or the other. My fiance and I are looking to get married in a year or two, and then start having children a year or two after that.

RE: my 5 year old
christopherjustice you have every right to be a proud daddy, he is an absolutely gorgeous little boy.
My daughter seems more aspie to me every day, she's 5 too and loves numbers, words and music. We started her on piano lessons a couple of months ago and although they dont normally teach kids quite so young, because she's shown a talent for it her teacher looks at her as a little experiment and teaches her singing as well and is always amazed at how well she does. She's even going to play in a concert on her own soon!!
Seeing as music in your family's genes I imagine your little boy has already got a head start on the talent front, piano lessons may help him channel that "energy" (my daughter likes to wrap EVERYTHING in paper and tape it up). I hope he continues his enjoyment of music and maybe one day we'll all be paying to watch him play!!
When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells and run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth.I shall go out in my slippers in the rain and pick the flowers in other people's gardens. And learn to spit...

My son liked music so much (he hummed all the time- some lovely riffs)
We also had a piano teacher come to the house - when he was almost 5 for a while....
He did fine except that he was (rather later than most) children in reading - and at that point he still wouldnot/couldnot remember much of his alphabet... (he was just starting to speak again) he could repeat the notes he saw the teacher hit and was great at guessing notes... but could not name them..(I forget how it went exactly) but to progress somehow he needed to know his letters.
Then it was too much - school and piano-- he needed to rest all afternoon after school.

RE: my 5 year old
i dont think that there is a massive rush to learn music
i think if its not forced the result is more soulful
he couldn't take any lessons just yet
his current songs are monster mash and the noddy theme song
i have shown him how to replay them by him moving the curser to the red box and clicking
when he is watching he is clearly studying
he has also started making songs up we were at the sea side he was on my shoulders and started singing

I suppose that might imply there are no sardines (or other fish species that congregate in schools). I think my pun ought to be used as added lyrics and built on to make a complete song.
