Feuerstein method

Has anyone got experience with the Feuerstein method to improve learning abilities? My son is bright enough, but he cannot concentrate well. I am afraid he may drop out.

Feuerstein sounds really good, it does not look at disabilities but at abilities, and uses those to circumvent the problem areas. But he question is: it is a long term thing and very expensive, so does it actually work?

NT but odd!

RE: Feuerstein method

I've never heard of this method.  Do you have any good websites that you could link to here, Earth Mum?  It sounds very interesting.

Yes, I'd like to know more

Earthmum may have better links but here are two I found. The second had the most info.

RE: Feuerstein method

There is this one: http://feuerstein-foundation.org/ or this one: http://www.iriinc.us.

But I think if you just google "feuerstein method, you'll find lots of links, also in your own area.

The interesting thing for me is that they focus on people with any learning problem, whether it be low intelligence, autism, ADHD, emotional problems, simply wanting to learn even better than one already does, or anyhting else. They can do that because they don't take the problem as a starting point, they start with someone's strengths. They feel you need to bolster self-esteem first before you can learn anything. That is why I thought it might be a really good thing for my son, who comes out with phrases like: "I am slow and stupid" (which he certainly isn't).

It sounds great, but it is a big investment, so I'd like to know if anyone used it (or had it used on them).  Maybe someone will still turn up...

Hi there earth mum- I just put my 9 year old son in a school teaching feuerstein's method. It is expensive, but I got tired of the lack of proper teaching for my son and the constant bullying. At his public school they were unable to teach him math because he has a diagnosed math disability, but the tutor I paid for after school could teach him!- I don't want to hijack this thread by telling you how she did it, but if you are interested just ask me.
My son has been at this school for a week so far- no behaviors- he also comes home happy! This school has only ten kids per classroom so there is no need for a one to one sea unless the child is very severe-by this I mean running out the door constantly etc. There is only one boy with an sea, but he yells out loud constantly and he needs the reassurance of someone being there- at least right now.

I will keep you posted as time goes by. I am hoping that his academics improve, but if they don't then I at least know that they will help him achieve high self esteem and he will achieve all he is capable of.
The public system lies when it says that it supports  inclusion.  In imo inclusion needs to be supported by educating nt children and by example from the teachers and principle- something that is definitely done at mediated learning schools- they accept all students regardless of scores on iq tests also- I like this!
