Genocide is defined as "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, social, political, economic, intellectual, familial, genetic, or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

RE: The prayer thread

Can we put any prayer request in here? If so, I would like some prayer for myself because I am trying to start a club for people with ASD at my college and am trying to navigate all the forms and regulations, what should we do and what should our mission statement be, etc. It sounds trivial next to yours though...I'll definately be praying for those folks too in those horrible situations.

RE: The prayer thread

Thank you Ana for being constantly on task with this issue.  I greatly appreciate your efforts on behalf of the issues that count.

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." (Albert Einstein)

RE: The prayer thread

Thanks for this thread, Ana.

I offer prayer for all those affected by JRC - the residents, may they be sustained by God's love; the staff, may they be given the courage to speak out; the management, may they see the error of their beliefs, repent and make changes; those who oversee this place and permit its continuing existence, may their eyes be opened to the inhumanity of such practices and may they have the wisdom to ensure that such a place cannot continue to operate.

I offer prayer for AspiefromVulcan in his efforts to start an ASD group.  May his efforts be recognised, be successful and bear fruit in that place.

I offer prayer for those known and unknown to us who struggle in their daily lives.  May they find peace.

I offer prayer for the people of Haiti and all those who work to help them at this terrible time.

Amen.

RE: The prayer thread

I want to pray for Alex, Quatermass, Makuronososhi, Lau, MrMark, Sinsboldly-- help them find a better way to get attention and self-respect.

I want to pray for the ex- and standby moderators on WP: Nirrti, Krex, TheMachine1, Tinky, Beentheredonethat, Ed, Serissa, Scoots[bunch of numbers], DW a Mom, Gwenevyn, Graelwyn, CockneyRebel,  and all the other moderators that made things so great on WP before. I hope they are using to the best of their ability their sense, their diplomacy and their ability to find good in everyone.

I want to pray for the suicidal and self-harming members, including SpaceCase, Aridarr, Ebec11.

I want to wish SpaceCase and her new babies well and give her the tact and the knowledge and the skill to raise those babies in a 100% loving, effective way, while not having to pretend to be the female she just isn't inside.

I want to wish Starrsy luck with his depression and things that cause it.

I want God to give username88 the motivation and wherewithal and energy to get up and get out of that house and out of that state and to a place where he will always feel at home and loved. I would like him to keep in contact with us and we can share our lives with each other again (not as bf and gf or *** buddies... I mean as siblings, cousins or friends).

Dear God, give MADDuck either the job he got interviewed for in Harris County or an even better one!

Trying to help out with getting membership rolls up, but it ain't easy.

Pray for me as well, I have anger management issues. I don't have meltdowns in the traditional break down and cry sense. My meltdowns are emotional versions of Chernobyl.

I will pray for you, fr. zatchary.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you;

RE: The prayer thread

Though I still struggle with controlling my emotions and making them less of a powderkeg, I really need some prayer over my finals tomorrow and a decision I'm trying to make. I want to ask someone out that I know from a Christian club at my school, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for dating and if I want to make my life any busier than it already is. She's a wonderful young lady and her brother went to high school with me, but I'm just not sure. You know the feeling, ask someone out and either way they answer, it will permanently alter your relationship with them.

RE: The prayer thread

I don't believe in prayer (obviously), but think the original post is a decent gesture. Just don't whatever you do think that prayer alone is sufficient - mix it with some actual action to help these inmates.

I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

If I offended you, please let me know via pm. I tend to do it without realizing it. I can be clueless as to how my humor comes across. Please be nice about it.

RE: The prayer thread

I came across this prayer this evening, and remembered this thread.

Merciful Creator,
whose love never ceases,
we bring before you the people of Japan,
and all the communities of the Pacific
engulfed by waves of destruction;
bring light in their darkness,
hope to their depths of despair.
We pray for those who have perished,
and for those who are terrified.
We pray for those who are injured
and for those who have lost everything.
We pray for those who will bring order out of chaos;
for those who will tend the sick
and heal the hurting.
Hear our prayer, O Lord,
and make us generous
in response to our neighbours in need;
through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
Amen.
