RE: PRIDE?!?!?!?!?
I am not proud of it, I just accept it. It's part of me and I think it makes me be me.

Citation needed.
I don't think its a disease.
I don't like it sometimes, as I have problems socialising and tend to stick to the same thing - in my industry that can be dangerous and has caused me pain.
I do find though when I worked in a college It helped me learn, its the weirdest thing for me.
I try and stay in touch with people I worked with but they don't seem to want to, and I know no one outside of work as work engulfs my entire day. If I had some friends or enjoyed where I worked (like I used to at the college) I may have a bit more of a life but its damn strange in that aspect.
In another I like everything perfect. but defiantly not a disease, no way. I would say my epilepsy is worse than my aspergers syndrome but even then i don't consider that a disease.
Please use punctuation and paragraphs - we have a few people with Dyslexia on the site, and this makes it easier on them.

Autism is not a disease- it is the inconsiderate, and shallow people who live in this world- they are the disease- not Autism.
Autism is not a disease, its just that our lives are made harder by the inconsiderate people with whom we share this world.

Sometimes I feel proud, sometimes shy and embarrassed by it.
I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

It's not that big a deal, honestly - just try to keep it in mind.

No problem! Thanks for letting me know.

RE: PRIDE?!?!?!?!?
Simple - because it worked for the LGBT movement.
Think of it thusly; Pride can instil a sense of belonging, a sense of...well, pride, confidence and so on. When people are treading on you, you need a mentality, or a part thereof, that you can fall back on.
Now, we're aware this can go too far, and into supremacist thinking - and I would be lying if I denied it happens. However, Supremacist thinking isn't welcome here - be it of creed, colour, race, neurotype or genetic.
Great point.
I'd like to add that pride is the opposite of shame, which was the feeling that dominated me for the first two and a half decades of my life. I thought I was a horrible person because I couldn't function like other people. Finding out that it was just Asperger's was incredibly liberating, and it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Why not celebrate it?
And yes, pride can go too far, especially if it's fueled by a desire to overcome all the negative emotions you felt about yourself before - a person can get too carried away very easily. It's easy to hate the people who hated you for being autistic. (On my bad days, I still do.) If you have experienced a lot of imbalance in your life, it's difficult not to tip the scale too far in the other direction when trying to correct it. But, in the end, we all are who we are, and that includes NTs.

welcome
Thanks.
By the way, that is a great picture. It looks like you're illustrating the concept of infinity.

RE: PRIDE?!?!?!?!?
Were not diseased were just different. In fact in some ways we are gifted. Einstein had autism and because of his autistic obsessive interest in physics and his lack of social distractions, he changed the world.

RE: PRIDE?!?!?!?!?
Next time, please don't acknowledge the troll, people. Even banning them just gives them what they want. The only way to win is is everyone ignores them.
Anyway, I do oppose Autistic Pride, only becuase I oppose Pride in general. Why does a site that promotes the philosophy that everyone is equal advocate pride, anyway?
See I figured it was an honest question. Most of the books I've read on autism may as well call it a disease.
