Atheism

Wow, I've been out for a year...
Sorry!

Anyway, I recently made some decisions, and I found that I am part of another minority group:

Atheists.

Took me a while to decide this, and I realize that I'm REALLY not liked in the public eye. So a question, is anyone else here atheist, and if so, why?

RE: Atheism

i am atheist, it probably stems from my misanthropic tendencies- if there really is a god, i would imagine he hates all of us. i mean, look around... he must be having a right laugh at all of us right now. people are ridiculous, myself included. he'd have to be a hugely sadistic being to want to make human beings the way they are, right? that's my view.

RE: Atheism

oh and i hate the idea of a group of people following one particular thing... i am very much an individualist. so i hate the idea of religion, whether i believe in god or not. i want to think for myself completely.

Quite a noble code, there!

Unfortunately, Ásatrú has been...waylaid... by certain, shall we say, undesirable groups?

RE: Atheism

After three deaths in my family this year (My grandmother and Uncle in March, and my cat two days ago), it's hard for me to say there's an invisible man in the clouds who loves all of us.

sucks to lose a pet. And relatives too, I guess.

The invisible man in the clouds who supposedly loves all of us is a christian thing (and at the same time he only loves us if we fear him o.o). Not all belief systems are created equally however.

I'm not religious. I selected "Other" in the poll. Still, I have delved into the practices, teachings, and beliefs of religions other than what I got from my christian upbringing. Why? Well, at the time I was trying to figure out humanity.

That question is not one of my current obsessions however.

I'm a non-denomanational protestant that has some agreements with other denomanations but not all... if you get the picture.

RE: Atheism

I'm not Atheist or Religious.
I avoid some religions and take the parts I like from others.

I just generally class myself as spiritual.

RE: Atheism

I'm been an Atheist since I was 15, before that I was technically a Lutheran Christian, but as far back as I can remember I was pretty much a Deist. The notion of a "Personal God" always struck me as a absurdity, equivalent to the imaginary friends my NT peers kept on thinking up.

Those afraid of the universe as it really is, those who pretend to nonexistent knowledge and envision a Cosmos centered on human beings will prefer the fleeting comforts of superstition. They avoid rather than confront the world. But those with the courage to explore the weave and structure of the Cosmos, even where it differs profoundly from their wishes and prejudices, will penetrate its deepest mysteries.

RE: Atheism

Oh, that's not to say I'm not "spiritual", I "worship" the Cosmos, not some BS personification of it labeled "god".
