Does anyone believe in reincarnation?
I find it a great philosophy. It allows one to have many more chances at a good life.

I think it would encourage me to procrastinate even more than I do already.
I try to live this life as well as I can.

RE: Does anyone believe in reincarnation?
I believe in optional re-incarnation of the soul and inevitable re-incarnation of the body.
All the molecules in my body have come from the consumption of other life-forms. Once upon a time my molecules were part of plants, other animals…
My atoms started out as stardust (as a side-effect of nuclear fusion) and have been re-cycled many millions of times through rocks, plants and animals over the thousands of millions of years that our planet has existed.
I am also part of the energy of this universe which holds everything together. 'God', or 'Spirit', if you like. My particular portion of this energy I regard as my 'soul'. I believe that a soul can retain a link with this planet if it so wishes and be re-incorporated if that is its choice, or it may choose to become a diffuse part of the whole - heaven?
I assume that I am living this particular life because my soul decided that it wanted the experiences, good and bad, that went with it. To bemoan the bad parts would be silly, as it implies that my soul is totally clueless and without choice; I am not prepared to accept that because it would mean accepting that there is some kind of sadistic monomaniac God imposing compulsory incarnation for souls as some kind of punishment or power-trip. That is not how I feel about spirit.
Why does God/Spirit 'allow' bad things to happen? Because direct interference by spirit would defeat the purpose of a soul's temporary immersion in spacetime. There would be no freedom to experience. The youngest child knows this. When learning to walk, or run, they do not enjoy the pain of scraped knees, but resist powerfully the helping hands of adults. "Me do it!" is the forceful cry of us all in our early years of life!
Next time I might be a tree…

RE: Does anyone believe in reincarnation?
I do not accept reincarnation as fact, as there is no valid evidence to support it.

Why is this thread in Support instead of 'Politics, religion and philosophy'?
