All my friends seem to be high-functioning. It makes me feel really, REALLY low-functioning. But it doesn't matter how functioning they are. To me, what matters is their attitude towards low-functioning people. Some low-functioning people even have a bad attitude towards low-functioning people. They say things like "A kick up the arse is what did me good and helped me function better" and "I SUPPORT aversives! They saved my life!"

That's just the brain-washing talking. Keeps 'em from pointing accusing fingers and their abusers - err..behavior therapists.

RE: Friendships Across the Spectrum?

A patient of mine once told me that he had "5 NT friends", they seemed to care for him very much after what I heard, I think that open-minded NT's can easily be friends with aspies, if they want to.

I have HFA, and I have no friends.  I'm not sure I can participate in the poll.  I WOULD be friends with someone with LFA, but I don't know anybody. :\

RE: Friendships Across the Spectrum?

I have one friend who is very much NT.  The other friend, I would not describe him as Aspie (certain aspects make me highly doubt he's Aspie); but he certainly has his quirks such as life-long special interests.  If he didn't have an athletic background (and performed well at physical stuff) and was immune (for the most part) to being bullied when we were in high-school, I'd probably consider him Aspie.

RE: Friendships Across the Spectrum?

My friends are all cleverer than me. I'd be bored by them if they weren't.

RE: Friendships Across the Spectrum?

I knew a LFA before I was diagnosed. He was funny and we made each other laugh. The teacher aide was a total killjoy and stopped us.

I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it will be with a knife.

I voted 4 option 5, but not cuz i'm nervous. I just don't have to seem anything in common with LFA people.

I should have gone with option 3 though, but still...

RE: Friendships Across the Spectrum?

I've never met an LFA adult.

Whether I was friends with an LFA person or not or not would depend on what we had in common and how well we got along.

I haven't had an LFA friend since middle school. I'd be uncomfortable now.
