No.  Unless we're fighting off aliens and/or zombies, no one should be forced to do service.  The need for a massive army is becoming more and more irrelevant.  Armies around the world are becoming more high-tech focused and less about numbers.

Now, those who do join the military are generally idiots.  It's full of self-righteous bigots and animals.  Some soldiers can think for themselves but the majority are followers who are intolerant of others.  Half of the people I knew in high school that are now in the military were pricks and NT bullies.  

That being said, my younger brother is an Army Infantryman and my other younger brother is a Marine recruit currently finishing J-ROTC.  And not all soldiers are stupid.  The ROTC students around campus are more open minded because they're smarter than the average grunt.  I've got other friends and family in the military and they're decent people who are open minded and tolerant of others.

And despite my associations with Leftist organizations on campus, I, myself, was thinking about joining the Army Rangers after college.
