Sad  Take a deep breath, and count to ten.

Explain how this is supposed to help anyone calm down. When someone says that to me while I'm angry, I get even more pissed. Someone explain this to me!

Feeding off the pain and misfortune of others,
A maniacal breed of sub-human parasites,

And do not be naïve enough to think you are unaffected,
The conversion has already begun.

By taking a deep breathe and counting to 10 ,you allow your thought processes to catch up,allowing you to make a more clear-headed decision.

Its basically meditation

Someone told me to do that when I really angry so I took a deep breath said onetwothree ect then hit a wall several times (which is what I was going to do anyway) and said " yeah you know that really helped"

It happens when you take a deep breath and count to ten and that way you are supposed to be able to relax and become calmer than you were.  For myself I have to count past ten, usually to twenty before that happens...otherwise it doesn't work for me.

My teachers and parents should learn that inhaling deeply doesn't help me in any way. What does help me is punching something. Although I do believe doing so cost me my closet door... It works better than breathing though, cuz my heart gets going faster from hearing "Take a deep breath, and count to ten." Everyone still says it, and it pisses me off! AAARRRGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That and my mother also said that it lets the adrenalin dissipate, so the fight or flight urge dissipates with it.

not entirely, I have cracked my knuckles 3 times and have joint problems. having said that I still hit them, its the only way I can get rid of the anger when I get to a certain point.

When I get so angry or stressed that I need to release it in some physical way, I have always tended to pick something up and slam it down again really hard.  It doesn't happen very often, but I have broken a couple of mugs and glasses that way, and when I was about 10 years old I broke a chair!

I also stamp my foot and slam doors.  My son does that as well, and I think he may have learned it by copying me.  Especially the foot stamping as sometimes we both do it at the same time! Rolleyes

I can't suppress it for more than a day either, otherwise when I do finally let it out, I do something I really regret.

That never worked for me either... I need to think about something else when I'm pissed, not focusing on why I'm pissed for 10 long seconds, duh.
