Do you believe in evolution?
Do you believe in evolution, and that apes are our closest common ancestors?
Fun fact: Did you know that the person who came up with the theory of evolution was a Christian? Also, did you also know that the person who came up with the big-bang theory was a priest?
Fun, and true facts.

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
I believe in evolution. As far as our species goes(humankind)I believe there was some DNA work done from a species not from our planet in an effort to continue their species here. They chose early man as the species here that they thought would be most able to survive here on our planet. So to me evolution and creationism go hand in hand

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
I think that evolution is the most likely explanation for our current existence. In light of further evidence, my ideas are subject to change.

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
Most of the time, yes. I tried to say evolution goes against my religion in order to get out of science class last year, but the teacher didn't fall for it. (We have the same religion, apparently) It was worth a try.

Yeah, I do.
It seems to work quite well with bugs and germs. They breed much faster than bigger creatures (bacteria divide every 15 minutes). Antibiotic-resistant bacteria, DDT-resistant bugs, the survivors of the Black Death in Europe and CCR35.... Hello???

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
I believe in the theory evolution as much as I believe in the theory of gravity, the theory of electromagnetic induction, germ theory, etc - i've in fact witnessed all of these things with my own eyes.
Seriously, I once did an experiment with some maggots and caffeine (sounds gross, bear with me) - caffeine is toxic to many small insects, so I exposed a bunch of maggots to caffeine and waited. Lots of them died off, some didn't.
I left the survivors alone, then tried to kill their offspring - the offspring were resistant.

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
One of the most memorable experiments we did in science in High School was when our teacher put a bag of variously-coloured jelly lollies in a plate and said "imagine these are snakes". Then she picked ten of us students (me included) to be "kookaburras".
We all dived on the lollies and ate as many as possible. But unbeknown to us voracious birds, she'd dipped the yellow lollies only in a foul-tasting but harmless chemical. At the end of the experiment, we all had to look and count how many and of what colour snakes were left. Big surprise that only the yellow ones were left, as it only took one taste for the ten of us to leave those ones alone as tasting disgusting.
She then told us that in evolution the animal that manages to have some sort of defence against being eaten (like tasting bad) would be the ones left to breed. Soon they would be the dominant population of snakes.
It left a big impression on me, and was a very hands-on way of explaining evolution to 12 year old kids!

Maybe that's why the coffee bean makes caffeine- to defend itself from being eaten by insects. I heard caffeine was being considered for insecticidal use less toxic to humans. Aside from allergic individuals (I knew one in high school), it takes the coffee equivalent to 60 cups of coffee to kill you.

I heard soldiers in Desert Storm would just swallow coffee grounds. Whatever works, it was four days of pounding the enemy non-stop around the clock.

RE: Do you believe in evolution?
Yes, Evolution is a fact - in a perverted way, we force animals to evolve to fit our needs - the Golden Retriever, the Jersey Cow, the Alsation - none of these animals existed even 150 years ago - the GR is less than a century old.
It's staggering to think that Humans, Chimpanzees, Gorillas, Orangutans et al all come from a common ancestor, and some people think it offensive, but...hey, suck it up, that's the way it is.
I also think it nigh on impossible that we are the only planet with life - in all the billions of planets around all the millions of stars in all the hundreds of thousands of Galaxies, there MUST be something else out there. It might not be life as we recognise it, but...it's out there.
