What is the status of APD 2009?

The Autistic Self Advocacy Network is interested in either supporting existing APD efforts for 2009 or working with other groups to coordinate something for 2010. Is there anyone in charge of APD '09 currently? What is the status of the existing efforts? Whose organizing things at the moment? We'd like to coordinate with them.

Do I take it from your signature file that you're in New Jersey?

I was born in New Jersey. Unfortunately I live in Florida now.

I am probably not the best person to coordinate anything major, as I am only 14. I am still more than willing to get involved in any way that I can.

If you're up to it, you might be interested in joining ASAN's teen group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ASANTeens/ There's a shortage of activism-related conversation (though there has been a little bit), and we could use some strong, neurodiversity-oriented teens to generate activity and encourage and educate the list at large.

If you're in South Florida or the Tallahassee area there may be opportunities I can refer you to.

RE: What is the status of APD 2009?

I have a question that is probably unrelated to all of the current discussion:

Is the date June 18, or "6-18", taken from 1.618, an approximation of the Golden Mean?

I am asking a serious question.

I would be happy to talk with the local (central new jersey) friends of different learners group...

Also, my aspie son is 12 - I guess he is too young for the teen group?

I don't think we'd have a problem with him joining. Here's a link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ASANTeens/

RE: What is the status of APD 2009?

Well I just emailed AutismSA (Autism South Australia) letting them know that APD exists.

My family have also designed home made APD stickers for my basketball team to wear that night - and actually now the whole thursday nights women's basketball competition have agreed to wear one including the umpires and staff at the centre.

That's really a great idea.

Ari,
I'm not absolutely sure who's in charge of APD '09; Gareth would more than likely know, though.

Just in case you don't get any more information soon, I'd suggest to make public and media appearances on the 18th, explaining what APD is, and *why* we have it, along with any other advocacy you want to present (your excellent work with ASAN makes me a bit sheepish about even suggesting anything to do).  :-)

I do hope the APD this year is grand!
