RE: handwriting

My handwriting was so bad that even I couldn't read it. I went to the library and got a book out about italic handwriting. I bought a pen and taught myself. My marks went up at school. I liked this style because it was boxy and 4 widths of a pen for the small letters and 6 for the large.
My writing became the best in the class except it was tediously slow.

RE: handwriting

Either my handwriting is fast and impossible to read or it is painfully slow and beautiful.  And even then...no one can read it because it is so "odd" looking.  I too have been punished for holding my pencil the "wrong" way. I hold it between my index and middle finger. I have also been yelled at for being ambidextrous....

Igby must apologize.  Mind-reading is not her forte.

RE: handwriting

I'm not 16 and under, I'm an over-30 person butting in!!!
I have really bad chicken scratch writing and when I write on the board (I teach people of high school age) I get chuckled at.  I don't care!  Kind of proud to have bad writing.  It is a sign of genius.  Ha ha ha haaa!  Then I pick on my students who have perfect penmanship.  Smile

RE: handwriting

I remember that when I was younger, one of my hands would get tired. So, as a result, I'd switch to the other. I'd write with that. To make things crazier, not only am I a lefty, but everyone else is a righty, it seems! Tongue

Now I'm writing with my right hand out of habit, because I was always forced to do so by teachers. I also write with what a psychologist called a "hook".

Also, bad writing as a sign of genius? Neat, I must be extremely intelligent, because my handwriting is absolute crap. Big Grin

RE: handwriting

One of my teachers hung all of my papers on his board to show everybody how not to write. They're still there. He's taught for 20+ years and says he's never seen anyone as bad as me. I do hold the pencil the right way. My handwriting is much better in pencil than pen. I, too am ambidexterous, but right in my right hand as not to seem out of place.

RE: handwriting

I mentally point and shake my finger at that teacher.   That was a very wrong thing for your teacher to do.  Never, ever embarass nor put on display a student who makes mistakes.   I hope you have been able to recover from such a mean act!

RE: handwriting

Is 18.
Yes. Unfortunately in Australia you only get to use a word processor if its a a purely physical thing - like a broken bone or paralysis. My only choice was extra time or use a scribe - it's only illegible if I panic or try to force the speed over 10 wpm (or 12 copying, my average is 6-8wpm). I am really visual which excludes use of scribes - I need to see what I've writen. My main struggle aside from speed is to keep the letters the same size and to get them out of the pen in the order they left my brain. If I don't concentrate on that then I get some really weird spellings e.g. gfratti for graffiti.

I am also ambidextrous, have double-jointed hands and have been told I hold pens/forks/pencils wrong.

I don't really write letters so much as draw pictures of them.
If I have enough time, I can do beautiful calligraphy - just give me the font and I can copy it.

RE: handwriting

I have slight dyspraxia that makes my writing extremely small. Now I just write in all caps so that I at least can read it without getting double vision and headaches.

Every day I thank God that I wasn't afflicted with Neurotypical Syndrome.

RE: handwriting

I've always had poor handwriting, I'm slow and it looks like ***. It's gotten much better over the years, though, faster at least. I'm double-jointed and used to get pains in my hand. I usually write right-handed, but I used my left hand to do notes in high school for two years, just for fun. Tongue

Me, crazy? Nooh!
