RE: What about people with AS who want to be cured?
I agree, i hate being an aspie (but have no problem with that label) i'd give everything i've ever had just to be cured
What do you hate about being an aspie/yourself?
The forboding (sp?) feeling that i'll inevitably *** up my life in a major way.

And is this feeling based on any reality, or is it merely a feeling?
Such feelings of hopelessness are common and understandable if you have underlying depression or self-esteem issues.

oh, don't be such a pussy.
You are still the same person you were before the diagnosis, you've had Aspergers since before your birth.

That's very true. After my son was born I watched him making the flapping and kicking movements I felt him making in my womb. He still makes those movements.

I agree with Pika.
Being Aspie is who you are, who you are and always will be. You need to try to accept and learn more. In time, you will accept yourself and the Asperger's and will feel better.

Many people with Asperger's have succeeded in life. In their future. They used their special interests and strengths to help them succeed in life.

I can totally understand where you're coming from. However, your symptoms will most likely lessen with time. Those that don't - you will find ways of dealing with them. You will also find a way to have a happy, successful life (with bad days and good days, just like everyone else in the world).
There's a Mormon saying that "Everyone has their own Gethsemane". This means that basically everyone has their own crap to deal with. This is yours. Other people - including NTs - have theirs.
Your life isn't hopeless. You actually have more chance of earning a higher wage than the NT population because generally speaking Aspies have a great talent in some area.

My emphasis - nothing at all has changed since your diagnosis. Simply putting a name on what you already are will not change anything.

I'd ask for a citation on that figure (since it sounds vastly overstated), but it's quite irrelevant to the basic point here:
Nothing at all has changed since you were diagnosed, except (from what I can see) you now have some feelings of hopelessness brought on by your own opinions of what AS means. My advice would be to remind yourself of what you thought about your future before the diagnosis, and if you continue to suffer feelings of hopelessness to talk about these feelings openly and seek treatment for any depression.
