Aspergian Wristbands
Recently, I read something on the Neurolands Portal about Aspergian wristbands, which were referred to as Aspergian "passports". People were encouraged to make their own wristbands out of any orange-colored material they chose. The orange wristbands would identify Aspies to one another.
I haven't heard about this anywhere else. Has this idea been generally accepted among Aspies ? Does anyone here wear an orange wristband ? The thought of an identifying symbol is very appealing to me.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
This seems to pop up again every now and then. Last I heard, the idea was being abandoned because some charity had adopted orange wristbands for their cause. But it seems to come back anyway.
Personally I'd rather see more people wearing the infinity sign, but if lots of people are going for the orange armband I guess I'll do it.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
Every color has been adopted by some cause or another. So far as I remember, self-injury support has orange; but so do about twenty other things.
Anyway, some of us can't wear bracelets for sensory reasons. A universal identifier probably isn't possible. There's nothing stopping you wearing a T-shirt with an Aspie slogan on it, though.
Maybe I should do that.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
Yeah I would love to wear a wristband!
The colour orange is meant to represent socialising... it's effects are meant to make you feel sociable =\
All the Buddhist monks wear orange
We could wear rainbow coloured bands... but that is also the colour of the gay community... not that its a problem but straight aspies might get mistaken for gays in a bar haha
I suppose the bands could be any colour but I like orange too or any colour
I suppose they would have an Aspie logo on or something
Yeah we don't all have to wear the same thing... but if we aspies use several symbols, we will have various different options, all recognisable to mean the same thing such as: the wristband... the rainbow infinity... and the Asp snake style logo badge that I thought of... and maybe others too =)

I was thinking of wearing an Edward Scissorhands t-shirt. Then when people react to my blankish expression and ask me "Are you OK?" I can just point at Edward. I'll have to try it and see if anyone notices the similarity.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
my aspie son's favorite color is orange -
he loves the philosophy of budha ...
and is very social -
Who knew a color could represent so much?
I would really like it if it became known - then I would know that when he was wearing a wrist band - he was feeling proud.... Our family would wear them when we felt he needed us to show our pride... (and a bunch of other reasons....)

I'd rather have a lapel pin. I can't STAND anything around my wrists, I don't even wear a watch.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
Maybe we can have watches with the rainbow infinity symbol on the face?

*tsk* orange just doesn't go with my outfits... (grin)
what about a sterling silver infinity symbol charm? They have it for that puzzle piece design.

RE: Aspergian Wristbands
Light blue as per recognizable list, why change. With a message and logo. But what simple message?
Rule 1. Never, ever, give up (mind blanks excepted)
Rule 2. Refer to rule 1.
