I think I may turn orange

I was thinking about my carrot consumption today.  I know, sounds weird, but I was.  I have been eating carrots since I have changed my eating habits and lost a bit of weight (30 lbs or so since November of last year).  I eat a small bag of carrots 5 days a week to "replace" potato chips in my lunch.  I was wondering if I could turn orange and found this:

If you see me and I look a bit orange, you know why.

Yep,

The carrotaddiction is a famous one.
I got warned for it during pregnancy if I remember rightly.
It's also one of the more funny things you read in books about addiction.

To bad that it seems that too much vit A could weaken your bones. The tan is fun, but having brittle bones is not.

My current interest in carrots sent me to this site, which has made me laugh hysterically at my desk for the last 15 minutes.

Yep,

There seem to have been cases of women eating kilo's per day. TongueBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinTongue

And I found this:

Carrot juice diet killed scientist

A health food addict who had been drinking up to eight pints of carrot juice a day was bright yellow when he died, an inquest at Croydon. Surrey, was told yesterday. Dr John Fabricius said he believed Mr Basil Brown' aged 48, a scientific adviser, had died of vitamin A poisoning.

Mrs Brenda Brown, of Hayes Lane, Kenley, the dead man's wife, told Dr Mary McHugh, the coroner, that she had prepared the carrot juice. "Nobody pre- scribed it. He just thought it was the right way to cat. He also took vitamin A tablets."

A typical day's diet for her husband was: breakfast, carrot juice and fruit ; midday, more carrot Juice and fruit; evening meal, eggs, tomatoes, cheese. Dr J. Fabricius, the family's doctor, told the coroner that he had warned Mr Brown against his addiction to vitamin A. He had warned Mr Brown to stop taking vitamin A and had later sent him to a specialist who also warned him.

Mr Brown had been '"an intelligent man but he had a very low opinion of doctors ". Dr David Haler, a pathologist, said that Mr Brown was bright yellow when he died. Vitamin A poisoning, like alcoholic poisoning, produced cirrhosis of the liver. The inquest found that Mr Brown had died from carrot juice addiction.

Everything in moderation, they say, even carrots.

Hm, it looks pretty good, as long as we are not talking about seeds or extracts.

Well the positive part is that it is so hard to digest that some claim you lose more calories by digesting than you gain by eating. Negative calories. Negative part, allergies are possible. If you allready have a pollen allergy chances are even bigger.
It says nowhere you'd turn lightgreen. But that would be a fun effect wouldn't it?

I'd say, do this in moderation too. Take a carrot once in a while. Use all kinds of colors in your palet of food. And you'll be OK.

* imagines a striped or checkered Korrigan, or wait, a flower pattern would be nice too. Could we opt for polkadot aswell? *

RE: I think I may turn orange

Yikes, I can't stand celery when raw! Too bad, too.

Of course, if you ate nothing but celery, then you'd not be able to sustain yourself, considering lack of calories gained (not to mention lack of protein and stuff). But as long as you don't get addicted...

I quite potato chips and soda for about three years, then went back in moderation a couple years, and now I'm going back to quitting, allowing for a small bit every once in awhile (such as at social gatherings where that's what's being offered - I would drink a can of coca-cola a week, nowadays not soda for a few months).

One thing I have discovered recently is what a great effect that iron has with me. Of course that one is very important to keep in moderation.

RE: I think I may turn orange

Really it is just an at lunch thing.  I want something with crunch of some kind.  I can eat a bag of little carrots and it will help fill me up for very little calories, it has fiber, and vitamins.  Much better than the chips I was eating.

I am guessing I am not eating enough to be harmful, but I think I will start varying my crunchy thing at lunch with celery every other week.
