Shy  Any aspiring film buffs, filmmakers around here besides me?

Since film could be considered an art form, I figured that I could start a thread, which would lead to possibly creating a film forum around here at AFF, starting with these questions:

Who are your favorite directors?

What are your favorite film genres?

What is your preferred style of filmmaking?

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Hi. I don't have any favourite directors. I like Christopher Doyle and Charles Kaufman, but they are no directors. Filmmaking is not always about directing.

I don't like genres and my prefered style in the moment is animation. But this could change again.
I'm a screenplay-writer and since I was told that all my main characters are autistics, I found out, that this has something to do with me and it changed my work a lot. And my life.

I like the idea of having a film forum and meet others.

I love this idea esp since the autistic mind tends to be on the creative side always with great ideas and always free flowing

well my favorite director on the top of the list is

Hiyao Miyazaki

Stephen King

the genres i like are

horror
adventure
anime
romance
science fiction
comedy

my preferred style of film making is in the category of homemade (low budget) usually with a digital camcorder with SD memory card capability that allows easy upload and editing on windows XP

RE: Any aspiring film buffs, filmmakers around here besides me?

A filmmakers thread would be great, I'm all for it. As for favourites, I could try and list a few.

Directors, I'd say..

Andrei Tarkovsky
Harmony Korine
Werner Herzog
Wim Wenders
Alejandro Jodorowsky

Genre/sub-genre:

Dystopian Sci Fi
Blaxploitation
Road Movies

Preferred filmmaking style:

I don't have a particular style for my own filmmaking (still learning I'm afraid) but I favour a lot of the above director's visual and narrative style.

I suppose for my own particular style would depend on format, which is usually super 8 and 16mm film. I'm also the proud owner of a Bolex H16 and Canon 814 camera.

RE: Any aspiring film buffs, filmmakers around here besides me?

Sure I've written TV show and movie scripts, too many of them about me, some of them on paper, the rest in the back of my head.

MissNewZealand, this concept is cool.

I wrote a couple of scripts for Marshall Leap, when I wound up in different parts of my past life.  The hologram is my grad school classmate Becky, blond hair, blue eyes, bombshell, from Matewan (when gas was cheap she had an 80 mile drive to class and back), she's probably a Ph.D professor of sociology by now.

* April 21, 1991, Yvonne Lives On  Two days before said Yvonne tries crossing railroad bridge near Shepherdstown over Potomac River, at wrong time, not checking Amtrak schedule. Jumps, fatally injured.
* September 1985,Gloria  I'm delivering newspapers in the rain, hologram, "You shouldn't be delivering newspapers in the middle of a hurricane!!!" Oh boy.
* Date unknown  I try to pull a wheelie on my 20 inch bike and the handlebars come off and I fall off my bike.  Oh boy.

What do you think MNZ?

Yvonne Lives On Oh Boy sequence:

I am in the cafeteria line for Sunday dinner and Becky appears just as the Christian girl whom the two of us have been mutually avoiding one another all academic year comes out of the ladies' room, and she can see the hologram!

Everybody thinks she nuts, and I try to play along, until she describes the hologram's facial features and says, Becky.

"Oh boy."

Gloria  "Hey Becky, how are you enjoying the rain and gale force winds?"
"Very funny Chris. It rained very hard in Huntington yesterday, as it sometimes does."
The bike blew over again.
"Why don't you go home and wait for the storm to blow over?"

RE: Any aspiring film buffs, filmmakers around here besides me?

I spent several years teaching computer animation - an AS hotbed if ever there was one - both faculty and students.

I've done mostly technical animation for forensics and engineering, but I have had the opportunity to do some small bits for local indy films which were a lot of fun.

Someone mentioned Werner Hertzog. We watched one of his films a few nights ago called, "Encounters at the End of the Earth". He got a grant to go down to Antartica and interview people. What an odd bunch of folks! I was ready to pack my bags and go - I'd fit right in.

I also figured that autistics could see the hologram (I guess that could include Aspies) and grown up me..... scene in special ed with LFA classmate...

"Who are you?" my classmate wanted to know.
Becky answered, "We're super heroes. I'm Wonder Woman, and this is Fat, um, I mean, Bat Man."
"Yeah, you're right there." I said.
