Do people usually assume that you're younger than you are?
As it looks like I'm going to be up all night packing for my move tomorrow, I thought I'd start a poll.
I've noticed a lot of people here mentioning that they are often taken to be younger than they are. I was still being offered half fare on the bus and train well into my twenties, and now at the age of 40 I'm often taken for being in my late twenties to early thirties - despite having quite a lot of grey hair!
I also find that I'm surprised to find that people I'd assumed were older than me are in fact younger than me!
Thoughts and votes welcome!

Yes.
Same with my daughter and my son.
My daughter is 22 - left school, had a gap year, completed degree at university, had another gap year, but when out shopping during the day people will ask - "no school today?"

I'm 37 and people think I'm late 20's, all the time. Sometimes it's nice, but other times when people are being patronising and talking down to you like you were someone with less life experience - then it's just annoying.

People always take Erich to be younger than he is, damn it. He's considerably younger than I to start with, but looks even younger than he is. I'm sure people think I'm robbing the cradle.

In real life, I look younger. On the Internet, I seem older. My apparent age on the Net is slowly catching up with my real age, though; when I was fifteen, people guessed twenty; nowadays I get "late twenties" and I'm 25.

When I returend to my university after a 3 year absence, people thought that I was 22-23. One time, I showed my license to this one guy, he was like, "you're 26?"

I've gotten that for years. It'll be a good thing when I'm older.

RE: Do people usually assume that you're younger than you are?
Yes. People are always surprised when I tell them I'm 27...
My little sister looks younger than her age as well. I think she looks about 18, when she's 24. My mum also looks younger than her age. People are always surprised she has four children, with the oldest 30. My mum is 49.

RE: Do people usually assume that you're younger than you are?
I was at a market once, selling a variety of old crap including a fold-up cot. Someone asked whether I'd used it for my own children... I was sixteen at the time!
But then, I'm totally useless at judging people's ages, particularly in relation to the opposite sex. The only potential explanation I have is that I haven't revised my mental criteria of who I'm after in years, because I've totally given up looking and have embraced spinsterhood, so I still check out people the age I was when I last seriously attempted to do the relationship thing. Which was years ago.

Well I think you would be quite a catch to any single red-blooded Aussie male. I think you have a great personality. Good values. Good sense of humour and look pretty gorgeous too.
So there.

RE: Do people usually assume that you're younger than you are?
Don't know where, but somebody assumed that looking younger is quite normal for Aspergers, because many of us don't show emotions as much als NTs do and so our faces don't crinkle that early.
I don't know if that's the reason.
