RE: 10000
I just tried out of curiosity. As a matter of fact, joining the forum is disabled by the administrator of this board. This is what an error message says.
I began to wonder why there is no 10000++ member.
Question to the administrator: why?

RE: 10000
I find this a little inappropriate, Ivar. This recent banning / warring / fighting here does not need to be re-evoked by statements like that, thank you.
I myself am an administrator for the technical support forum of our company. From time to time I delete users that have never posted and were only logged in once. If this joining / logging was more than one year ago, I delete the user. But we have only a little more than 500 users, so this can be done manually.
I recently saw (while waiting for the 10000th to join) a user that registered three names in a row: Der_Hitler, Der_Hund und Das_Ship. No posts, but at least one offensive user name: good candidate for a clean up.
The most plausible explanation to me is that 10000 members was the default limit of MyBB. This forum exists for quite a while and maybe nobody has thought at the start of this that the number of members would exceed the 10k. So the value never got changed. If this is so, some fast clicks can solve the problem.

RE: 10000
Yes. I know. Hence the little inappropriate.
But it is like with the old NLP 'joke': Try to NOT think of a pink giraffe!
There is a 'NOT' in it, but the simple fact of mentioning the pink giraffe evokes the thought of it; at least on behalf of understanding the instruction.
Same thing with the war on drugs, for example. There, slogans like 'Don't use DRUGS' let the audience immediately think of drugs, although they would perhaps not have. And now people walk through a world where at each corner the word 'DRUGS' sneak into their sub consciences. How can such a 'war' be won if everybody is forced by it to think of the one thing it is supposed to free the society from?
This said, your statement appeared to me as it was delving into a wound that could need some healing time. But as other posts in this thread suggest, that topic is kinda en vogue these days.

RE: 10000
The ban on new accounts is a temporary measure Gareth has taken in the wake of recent troll activity. As I recall, last year this happened at about the same time...the kids get out of school for the summer, they have little to do, so they join sites and make trouble. New accounts will be accepted again soon; the number 10,000 is coincidental.
