Actually Zed, although I understand your point of view it can't always work.

Rightly or wrongly minorities often have to adapt if they are to live a happy life.  I say adapt not change.  I live in a foreign country.  The language is not my own, the culture is not my own but in order to live a productive happy life I have to adapt.  I often don't understand, I sometimes get it wrong, I sometimes wish there were more people like me and occasionally it just all feels too much.  But, most of the time I realise that I have to do it and get on with it.  Interestingly, I think my husband has done it a bit better than me (even though I spoke the language on arrival and he didn't).  Maybe because in his everyday life he always has to adapt?

I don't think anyone thinks I'm 'wrong', just that they have the majority culture.  Alectrum - if she is reading - may well understand what I'm saying as I think she too is an ex-pat.  Perhaps Korrigan is just teaching her husband the culture and not telling him he is 'wrong'.
I try to fit in, but I never pretend that I was born here or am one of the people from here.  I am proud of who I am.  You can adapt without being someone else.
