RE: Les Miserables
Ha, my mom just commented that the only thing that ever comes out of my mouth when someone says something anymore is Les Mis quotes, lol It's really not -that- extensive (I don't think, at least...) but I -do- quote it often
Last night my mom told me to take the blind dog for a walk in the dark and I said "Please do not send me out alone, not in the darkness on my own" LOL

RE: Les Miserables
You're such a lonely child, how pensive, how sad you seem to be...
There's so little I know that I'm longing to know of the child that I was in a time long ago...
In my life, I'm no longer a child and I yearn for the truth...

RE: Les Miserables
Oh yeah. I love Les Mis. (It's really great and the music on that stage production is fantastic.)
...Although I felt that the most recent movie (with Liam Neeson et al) didn't really do justice to the story - it tended to race through each part like it was trying to fit too much in to too little time.
"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" still gives me chills - although my personal favourite songs are "On My Own" and "I dreamed a dream".
Was singing in a production of Les Mis a few years back (some local thing) and that was lots of fun. And during the bit where Gavroche gets killed, it was kind of funny to watch 3000 people all startle at the same time.

RE: Les Miserables
I Dreamed a Dream is one I listen to when I have to go to the river if I get pissed at my mom. It's calming and enraging at the same time, at least to me. I like the TAC version the best out of all that I've heard.
But there are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather...

RE: Les Miserables
FOUR MORE DAYS!
*is SOOO excited*
Unfortunately, they're not allowed to use a revolving stage. There were some weird stipulations in order for them to even be allowed to do it, and one of them was to not copy the Broadway's revolving stage.
If it's good, I think I'll go again the next weekend, on a Sunday afternoon, and sit in the balcony - the seats are half price if you come right before the show starts, and the balcony seats are the cheapest. But for this coming Sunday, I've got front row center of middle orchestra
The time is here, let us welcome it gladly with courage an cheer!

RE: Les Miserables
My brother knows a few of the "Lovely Ladies" that will be in it. He says they're all getting tired of the music, he says they say "YES, We can hear the people sing!" xD
I started listening to it exclusively before their rehearsals ever started, and I'm by no means getting tired of it

hello...and good morning> (8:30 Am here) My kids (mainly the boys) boys want to see Les Miserables, but as they are 9 and 11 and daughter is 8, the lovely ladies part is not suitable. I'd have to pull the kids out during that part.

RE: Les Miserables
The first time I saw Les Miz, over 20 years ago when it was first on Broadway, I thought "I'm selling the house in california and moving to New York so I can see this every night."
Eponine, is it a local group doing the production you will see, or a touring production? Either way, I envy you seeing it for the first time.
GO LOVE IT!

It's a mix of local people and people from around the world that have been in a Les Mis production before.
Here's a link to the cast...the major characters, at least: http://www.mtwichita.org/Performances_20...content=lm

I sing all the time when I'm at home, without even thinking. Once my nephew was there, and apparently I sang "Easy money lying on a bed", because my nephew (5 years) asked me "What's easy money lying in a be?" My explanation? Well...uh....it's money, and it's just laying on the bed...so it's easy to get...xD

RE: Les Miserables
SO glad I got back in, I've been dying to tell someone about it since I got home yesterday evening!
It was AWESOME! I was really impressed, I didn't actually think they'd be able to do it so well, but they did!
There were some changes, of course. There was no runaway cart. It was a falling crate.
"Is there anyone here who will rescue the man? Who will help me to shoulder the weight of the...crate?" xD
The scenes that would have used the revolving stage (which wasn't allowed to be used in this production) was actually nicely done. The student side of the barricade was visible, and when Gavroche went to go scavenge for bullets, they had him climb up the barricade and into this platform behind it, so you could still see him. The army officers ("You at the barricades listen to this!") were never seen, since they were on the other side.
The guy playing Valjean was very, very good, if anyone's heard the Valjean on the "Complete Symphonic Recording," in my opinion he's terrible, and I was afraid that's what our Valjean was going to be like, but he really sounds almost like Colm Wilkinson, just not as aged-sounding.
The Javert was a little...different. he has a great voice, it's just not what I'm used to. I mean, I have 2 recordings of Les Mis, and in both of them Philip Quast is Javert, so I don't know any other Javert.
Thank god Eponine was good...in most of the video clips I've seen, Eponine has a terrible, high-pitched screeching voice, but this one was very good, much lower pitched. I would almost say she's a tenor, but not quite.
Fantine was excellent as well, she sounded almost exactly like the Fantine in the 10th anniversary concert.
I had a huge grin on my face the entire time, I was so happy to see it Annnnd...the guy sitting next to me was conducting the entire time xD And my brother was afraid I would conduct too much, lol. (For those that don't know, I conduct to just about any music I hear, except I do it with my left hand...actually, perfectly mirrored from what its supposed to be...you can tell I spent most of my time watching the conductor, not being it )
I'm going again (yes, again, it was -that- good, and I'm -that- addicted to Les Mis) on Wednesday night and Sunday night (closing night), and maybe Friday night. See, trick is, if you get there 2 hours before the show, tickets in the rear orchestra and balcony are half price. That, plus my $2 student discount, and it's only $7 for the balcony I paid $37.50 for my seat, front row of middle orchestra, near the center. Well worth it, I might add, but if I can get seats for $7 I may as well go a few more times! Took them 23 years to do it once, who knows how long before they do it again.
There were a couple not-so-good parts, namely Gavroche seemed rather tonedeaf in the first piece he sang, but he was pretty good after that, and the high strings were a little out of tune. Not horribly out of tune, but it was noticeable.
One of the guys I went to high school with (graduated the same year as me, also in IB) was in it, I thought I recognized his voice but I didn't see his name in the cast list at first. He was one of the members of the chain gang (the one that sings "I know she'll wait, I know that she'll be true") as well as one of the students, Listolier. He was in Les Mis before, back in high school (before I was a fan of Les Mis, so I didn't see it then), and he's got one hell of a voice.
Soooo....now I can't wait until Wednesday ^^ If it was on today, I would have gone and seen it again, but its not playing again until Wednesday.
Oh, wait, before I forget, PICTURES!!!! Cameras weren't allowed, but there are professional pictures:

RE: Les Miserables
And yes, I actually managed to keep my mouth shut and not sing for the entire 3 hours. Can't say the same for someone sitting behind me, though....

RE: Les Miserables
Wednesday's show was also excellent, of course There were some mistakes, but I forgive them xD That's the bad part when you know all the words, lol When they were lowering the bridge for Javert's suicide, they also started lowering the chandeliers for the wedding feast, but quickly realized they'd screwed up and pulled the chandeliers back up. Javert missed a few lines, and for a bit I thought he was starting to loose his voice...hope not!
The view from the balcony is awesome...particularly for "One Day More." You really get to see -everything- and how the choreography and everything works.
The only distraction was my mom whispering stuff in my ear every few minutes" "Who's that?" "Which one's Enjolras?" "Is that Marius?" "Does Valjean kill himself too or what?" You'd think after listening to it for months, she'd get the idea...but I guess not.
I'm going again on Sunday night, closing night - if i can still get tickets, of course. There's still plenty available, so I don't think it will be a problem. Sunday's matinée show is almost sold out though.

RE: Les Miserables
I wondered how the shpw went -- you were about to see it when the forum disappeared. I'm really glad you weren't disappointed -- you had high expectaions and it's great when a show lives up to the anticipation.
