Wanted to start a discussion thread about the new Activism Forum so that I and others might get some clarification as to what kinds of discussion belongs there.

The activism forum seems very necessary as not all of those motivated for a cause are motivated to discuss other things in this forum.

Still, there's a reason why I put this thread in exactly this section - because I'm not sure if Community Projects like creating offline groups, maybe to a greater extent like an organization, belong to Activism Forum or not.

What topics belong there?

I guess organized discouragement of cure-directed funding belongs there, but what about fight against misinformation regarding biomedical interventions and improvement of the job market for autistics?

Would talk about supporting who ever it is that said they were going to make t-shirts be on there - or can that just be a thread here - that when it comes to fruition the money would go there? Or on the activism site - if someone (an activist) was all ready to go, they would just come on here and say - hey, who wants to help now?
Like the activism thread being committee leaders and members and this AFF site being supporters ready when called on?

Oh, for those who missed the thread with the t-shirt ideas- they were a great idea, many people would wear them - they would be much cooler than any puzzle t-shirt and really raise awareness and money - in my opinion.  I don't know if that is activism or just the support of the activists...

Projects that could use support I guess.

I think a possible problem is that this new forum would get little attention if it weren't anything on the frontpage - to show a list of the latest posts in Activism Forum might be an idea

We can publish new posts on the front page just like the news section

My thought is that any proposed activity can go either here or in the activism section. The difference is that things posted in the activism forum should be focused on a result, and can only be discussed by people dedicated to getting things done.

For example, if you post something about forming offline groups here, it might end up with something happening, but as social posts are also allowed it could also end up turning into a discussion on antique teapots. In the activism forum, if threads turn into chat threads, they'll be moved to the public forum.

The aim is to get rid of a lot of the "I agree that's bad, isn't it horrible?", "My uncle Dave did that, he's a chiropractor now, what do you think of chiropractors?", "I noticed you like hamsters, I've got a hamster!" kind of posts, and have a place to work with a task-focused approach.

Would it be okay on this thread to chuckle and chuckle at the I've got a hamster! LOL

Zakkie I am not that activist pro-active myself but I do have some ideas that I can share and an idea as to what benefit will be derived if positively executed.

Sign up - as far as I understand it, it's for anyone that wants to get something relating to autistic people actually happening, regardless of whether or not it relates to traditional activism...

In other words, Activism = Actively doing something, rather than just talking.
