RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
Since the earlier post here today apparently people have been supporting autism speaks MORE due to the boycott of these stores.

Nothing like a bit of theft to bring out the "altruism" in some ignorant fashionistas. If you observe anything about the SL fashion blog circle, you know that when one blogger writes about some wrong thats been done to them, about 100 fashionista bloggers will follow and blog about the same thing. So now we have to play a 'whack a mole' type game surfing between blogs defending ourselves (god only knows where the next blog will turn up!!)
And they're talking about a SL Herald article....HELP!!!!!

RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
For those that didn't read the link, it's about someone stealing copyrighted 3D designs from an SL shop owner in the name of Autistic Rights.
I did about the only thing that would work to help prevent this from spreading - I offered my condolences.
Here's my message:
_____________________________________________
Hi Laynie,
I'm a person that often protests against Autism Speaks. As such, I'd like to join the others here in expressing my sorrow at the actions of the person that did this.
I suspect that part of the reason this happened is that many of us made an unofficial decision to leave these kiosks be, and some people were quite annoyed at this.
There are some quite angry and bitter people around, and you have been the victim of one of them. You are quite obviously a good person, doing what you believe is right - and that should be respected.
Even if you leave the theft aside, I cannot believe that someone would protest against you without bothering to contact you first.
If you are still interested, I have some more solid reasons why Autism Speaks is a damaging organisation, and I will be happy to post them here, but only at your request. If you are sick of discussing autism, I will simply reiterate my outrage at the twit that did this, then leave you in peace.
- Zakkie.

RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
Who was this protester? may I ask? (you can tell me in secret )
It's also a good idea now to delete Laynie's full perm outfit if you have it in your inventory. For Laynie's business sake.
Is there any, and I mean ANY word from Daphne about this? or has she totally gone back on her words. I'd really like to see the money they're raising split to include other charities.
At least the fashionista onslaught has died down for tonight.

RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
The incident is being misrepresented badly, if you view the alleged stolen items the original creator tag is still set, thus it was not stolen - it was copied from a lawfully purchased item that the creator set the "next owner can copy/transfer" flags on. To steal an item in SL requires copying it client side and this assigns a new creator tag to the item. It is simply not possible to copy an item in SL without the owner's consent while retaining the creator tag.
Furthermore, I have seen the logs where the threat of boycott came only after Laynie showed her clear intent to not listen.
Only after Laynie actually filed an abuse report for harrassment which resulted in a temporary ban that was subsequently overturned on appeal did this escalate as it has now. The way in which Laynie is misrepresenting this incident as "fanatic stole my stuff and gave it away without explanation" and then pledging to donate MORE to autism speaks as a result in my view makes her fully deserving of further boycotts.
Please do not "aid the enemy" by apologising to laynie for a legitimate form of protest. I will also mention how everyone in the major autistic groups inworld was banned from several stores including AFF.

Ah, that's a bit different - sorry about that. I'm not really too familiar with Laynie, so I only had the blog to go on...

RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
Y'know, she had the grand opening of her new store on the weekend.
This was a lovely publicity stunt, yes?

RE: Autism speaks in Second Life
I have finally given in and posted my comments on laynie's blog. I will also later today be contacting LL regarding the mass ban and looking into legal remedies. The fact people have been donating more to autism speaks because autistics have shown their dislike in a legitimate form of protest means that these people are in my view open for any legal form of protest. The emphasis as always is LEGAL. I will admit that recently I ended up ranting at a few autism speaks supporters as this whole issue is starting to massively piss me off. I encourage everyone else to refrain from the same mistake.
We've already seen the real world become covered with all this curebie propaganda, SL used to be a place you could for the most part wander around freely without seeing a single curebie unless you brought up the subject with someone. I hope we can prevent the virtual world from becoming another place we can't freely wander round without seeing open hate speech against us, especially given how many fellow autistics helped build the thing. Should things in SL get too bad, my own soon-to-launch competitor will be there and I will ensure the same does not happen there (excuse any obvious bias here, it is vastly preferable if we can save SL, do not hijack this thread with questions about my own competing world and PM if you're curious).

Can't be easy to make people realize what kind of organisation Autism Speaks is.
