sarahjoke paints stuff.

So this summer I decided to go back to my art "roots" and start painting... an attempt to thwart my creative block... to no avail as I'm no more creative now than I was before.

Not to say my paintings weren't fun... it was nice to just focus on something and enjoy myself in a stress-free creative environment. Smile

I've decided I'm going to do nine of these plant cropping squares in a grid as decoration in my house.

The whole shebang.

A detail

I really like painting a nice watercolor and removing the tape with a nice crisp edge... {sigh}

Is that a painting of a real plant?  The painting itself looks like a real plant.

I always enjoy the weather, no matter how cold and miserable it may be.

RE: sarahjoke paints stuff.

painting of a photo of a real plant. Tried to find one online like it to have the real name to know avail... but I never was any good at botany. Smile  We went to a botanical garden and I liked the leaves so I took lots of pics that I want to paint... I'll be starting on painting number two eventually... have to figure out which pic to use this time.

I'm not sure about the composition... its so random but I like it.

Thanks for the compliment. Smile

Yes, I do like Sun Tzu.  Here are quotes to help our cause.

It looks like what you "was before" may be more than many could ever hope to be.  Don't be so hard on yourself (if you can help it), what you have done here is fascinating.  I'd love to see the nine hung according to your idea when it is finished.

RE: sarahjoke paints stuff.

I'll keep you posted on the others. Smile

I don't mean to come across as an art-snob... but for me there's a real disconnect between being creative and being technical. Paintings like these are very technical for me, more like paint by number... but after a few days I am beginning to think that it is doing more for me creatively than I had originally thought. Smile

I have a new design job so we'll see if I manage to do something good...

Those are gorgeous! Mum had some plants like those in her garden, only the colours were reversed. I forget what they were called, but they come in several varieties, some with green and purple too.

Brilliant work Sarah--you’ve got quite a talent. Smile

The leaf images have a wonderful purity to them--a sort of Zen feel; like finding oneself amidst a beautiful rainforest.

RE: sarahjoke paints stuff.

I could just see these designs looking really good on soft furnishings and curtains. I wonder if there were any way to sell them to somebody who could use them for interior decorating fabrics. The designs would also look effective on feature tiles in a kitchen or bathroom, interpersed with white, cream, or pale green or pink tiles.
