Poll: Do you believe these numbers?
Yes, I believe it if I read it.
Ni, I never believe anything I read.
These new "stats" are helpful to raise "awareness"
These new "stats" are so unrealistic that they will hurt "awareness" because people will assume people are gaming the system
Other  - for example: how many people do I know and how many of them fit the "profile" in  my opinion.

"Autism more common" 1 in 88 in U.S. as per CDC

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-5...-children/

Excerpts:

info from 14 "areas" around the country since "every state is not included"
"2008 surveillance year show more than 11 out of 1,000 8-year-old kids have been identified as having an ASD, about a 23 percent increase since the last CDC report in 2009. Some of this increase is due to the way children are identified, diagnosed and served in their communities, although exactly how much is due to these factors is unknown."

"Boys are still about five times more likely to be diagnosed with autism in the U.S. than girls, according to the CDC report. It estimated one in 54 boys have autism, while one in 252 girls do. The number of children identified with ASDs ranged from 1 in 210 children in Alabama to 1 in 47 children in Utah. The largest increases were among Hispanic and black children."

My two cents- I do not believe these statistics - I believe there is too much mis diagnosing - no where in the first "article" "reporting" of which I am quoting here re: the CDC "findings" does it even mention ADD or ADHD - are those "conditions" or PDD-NOS included in the broad term ASD? (NOTE THE TITLE says Autism but the CDC reports on "autism Spectrum Disorder" hmmm - must be based on the old dsm (IV)

I live in NJ - and we used to (until this report - seem to have the most dxd autistic (boys)...) it wsa like 1 in 75 boys or seomthing - meanwhile - I know WAY more than 75 boys (I must know 500) and I only know of 3 - I tend to think that it is more like 1 in 100(lol MY stats I beleive and NOT "theirs" and mine are NOT "scientific" at all..

anyway - I posted the link to the article - "just in time" for APril "Autism awareness month" (in the USA)

You know what - I will do a poll too...
