Tim Burton- AS, Bipolar or both?
I know this may seem like a silly excuse for a new thread but I was looking through numerous sites on whether Tim Burton is autistic, bipolar or both and I now want to ask people.
Apparantely, Tim Burton is bipolar rather than autistic. However, he may have been misdiagnosed as many autistics do or it could be the other way around.
Well, what do you think? Do we have any burton fans in the house?!

There's no reputable sources about Burton's diagnosis, the only convincing information we have is that his partner Helena Bonham Carter said that (after she worked on a TV movie that featured autistic children) he shows some of the signs of Asperger's. This dialogue snippet is available on several websites, including the Wikipedia entry on Tim Burton. But that's all we have.
I don't believe he has an official AS diagnosis, or so I have not found anywhere on the web.

RE: Tim Burton- AS, Bipolar or both?
Anyone who want's to know about Tim Burton, read his book Burton on Burton, watch Edward Scissorhand's and all his films. I noted that Edward Scissorhand was an image of himself that he created as a teenager, notice the sad bland facial features and note this is Tim Burton. I also noted his poor eye contact in the interview festures at the end of the Edward Scissorhand DVD.
Some say bi-polar is part of the autistic spectrum, in the way that some say ad/hd is, related thing what matter's is whether you have the triad of impairment's and those signs were there as a kid. Tim Burton talks about his childhood in his book, those images that a lot of us would recognise are in his films.
I am a big Tim Burton fan. I love his

Yeah lol maybe he is just weird. Some say bi-polar is part of the autistic spectrum is this your assumption or do you have proof (link to website or something) I have never heard that before that bi-polar is part of the autistic spectrum.

RE: Tim Burton- AS, Bipolar or both?
Why do people think he's bipolar? Being a loner seems to be a recurring theme in Burton's work, and that is suggestive of AS.
I think it would be pretty easy to mistake AS with depression (or a depressive-looking personal image) with bipolar, because with bipolar you have the mania and the depression, and with AS you often have "comorbid" situational depression combined with the "high" and excitement of autistic special interests. I think autistic special interests could easily be misdiagnosed as mania. The difference between mania and a special interest is mania is psychotic, while a special interest is not.
I know that bipolar is the latest fad in mental health issues, due to heavy promotion of bipolar by drug company advertisements. Painting the walls of your home in bright colours is a supposed to be a sign of mania!

I am not too sure where I read that about bi-polar, also read about how they look for a history of bi-polar in people they are considering as ASD. Anyway people are people not label's. Tim Burton is a fantastic film maker does not matter what he is or isn't, that his business.

Bipolar? Don't know.
Autistic? Don't know.
Bloody good director, though. Love all (well - if I'm honest - most of) his movies.

No, no, no. I met someone who I think was Johnny Depp. He asked me if I had Asperger's. I was really shocked. He said that he had worked with Tim Burton. He said it was a great experience for him and that Tim Burton had Asperger's. He appreciated people with Asperger's.

Really? Ihats amazing!
Well, I've got Burton on Burton and a lot of his films (particularly the ones that he had the most creative control over). These give me an insight to his supposed autism or bipolar syndrome.
Not many Bipolar people are bipolar ALL their lives but Tim seemed to be a loner for all of it. He has certain mannerisms and habits that are similar to mine, his outlook on life is quite similar and dangnabbit! We speak similarly too!
However, he did seem quite depressed in one phase of his life (during his years in disney) which could have prompted a diagnoses for Bipolar syndrome as most Bipolar people are diagnosed at a crisis point.
However, to me, he seems to be the sanest person on the planet. Then again, many people thought that about Stephen Fry and he has severe bipolar syndrome.
Again, I myself have been sort of studying his case and at the moment, I strongly believe that he could be an Aspie but I might accept that he developed mental health problems later in life.

Aspergers(or autistic spectrum) is also the latest fad in diagnoses, both professional and amature.Honestly though, bipolar and Aspergers are quite different. Sometimes the are comorbid but more often than not bipolar people show none(if any) of the symptoms of autistic spectral disorders. Many of them actually have good social skills and as I have pointed out befoer-some can be very manipulative which certainly does require *reading* people. But how does the recurrent theme of loneliness in his work indicate the he himself has social difficulties?
