Cabbage Soup

I'm on day one of the Cabbage Soup Diet. Six more to go.

Anyone else ever tried it?

Anyone interested in details?

RE: Cabbage Soup

Didn't we had a lenghty discussion a few month back about this diet?

RE: Cabbage Soup

I like cabbage soup.......but prefer the Atkins way of eating. Which is what I have been doing for years.

RE: Cabbage Soup

I tried it a while back with a friend.  I didn't stick with it as it tasted so horrible, but my friend did stick it out and she lost quite a bit of weight.

RE: Cabbage Soup

I would think all that cabbage must make one very flatulent.

If I can really lose weight, maybe I'll garner the will to try it.  The thing is if I'm always hungry for certain things, I'll be miserable.  When I feel famished I really get cranky.

RE: Cabbage Soup

As I recall the cabbage soup diet was devised by doctors for patients who needed to lose weight quite quickly so they could have surgery.  It does work, but it isn't the kind of diet that will lead to medium or longer term maintenance of a lower weight.  That said, losing a bit of weight quickly may give a confidence boost and sense of well-being that can form the basis of a healthier eating pattern.

I pretty much favour the "all things in moderation" approach myself. Smile

RE: Cabbage Soup

I lost a lot of weight and it was disgusting. First thing I did the next day was stuff my face with normal food.

RE: Cabbage Soup

A balanced diet:
A litre of beer in each hand.
(Substitute cider or wine etc. if you don't like beer)

RE: Cabbage Soup

The cabbage soup I made is fairly good. I put in a little cider vinegar and carraway seeds for flavour towards the end of cooking. Next batch I might put some garlic and ginger and chilli in it and pretend it is Thai food.

The first 3 days are the hardest. One time I felt so good by the end of the week that I started on a 2nd week right away. I only made it to 10 days in all though, I think we got invited out to a restaurant or something.

RE: Cabbage Soup

I couldn't stick to the cabbage soup diet.

I've switched to a modified version of the Atkins diet. I don't restrict the amount of vegetables I eat, but I make sure that I only eat vegetables that are low in carbs, very low in simple carbs, and high in fibre. Broccoli and cauliflower I eat large servings of (steamed in the microwave) - preferably with a bit of melted cheese on top. Spuds, pumpkin and other starchy vegetabls are out.

I made myself an extra large omelette for brunch and it was spectacularly good. Lean bacon, red pepper (capsicum), a little butter, cream cheddar cheese, green onion, mushroom, and 4 eggs. And the good thing is that I won't get hungry again until tonight.

Last time I did this diet I lost 10kg (22 pounds) in a month.
