Jenna McCarthy was on CNN last night.

At least I think that's her name.  The wife of Jim Carey.

She was discussing the "link" between autism and vaccines, saying that there is no doubt about it, and that now parents have to bully or something until they get the vaccines changed.

She was discussing this with three peadeotricians and made me so angry I couldn't sleep for hours.  She was rude and intolerent, even taking to swearing on live television (CNN), and yelling at people.  What got me was when she screamed "my child died in my arms" when he got the vaccine and supposedly became autistic.

How can a person say their child died when their child just became autistic?  I wanted to tell her her child did NOT die, her dreams for her child did.

Also, I was wondering if anyone else, when they see this sort of thing, gets the impression that the parent blames themselves for their child's autism, but cannot deal with the feelings of guilt and try to make like someone else was actually responsible so they don't have to deal with it?  I got that impression from her.

RE: Jenna McCarthy was on CNN last night.

I didn't watch CNN yesterday (we get excerpts on Aussie TV) so I didn't see it. I'm glad, because my TV might not have survived being beaten soundly with my walking stick! Tongue

Of course, the more such people behave like that on TV, the more people are going think that they ought to feel the same way. Sad

Well, fortunately my tv survived, but only because I had MSN on.  The poor lady I was chatting with got to see me having to restrain myself from cursing and swearing and yelling and screaming about Jenna McCarthy.

I look at it as the ghost of the "refrigerator mother" theory haunting the minds of frantic parents whose primary information source about their newly dx'd kids are Jenny McCarchy and/or Autism Speaks. Of course that idea is bull, but even when you know something's not true, doesn't mean it won't haunt you. Anyone who's had an irrational fear knows what this is like. They know that they didn't cause it, which is good, but the thing they don't realize yet is that autism isn't the horrible tragedy they had in mind before they knew autistic people. Without that realization, they'll need to find someone/thing to blame. I feel sorry for people who are lied to and manipulated upon this way.

Talking about "a cure for autism" is like taking a sledgehammer to a glass Domino set.

So do I.

I can see that the family is obviously struggling, as many families of autistics are today.

I do hope her the best, but hopefully she not as nasty when she's calmed down.

Earthmonkey, I love the quote you have by LAura Tisoncik. I have used it a couple times speaking and once I posted it - properly attributed it.

RE: Jenna McCarthy was on CNN last night.

Read it - and noted that McCarthy and her boyfriend Jim Carrey are leading a protest on behalf of Generation Rescue on June 4 in Washington DC.

Get word around. I think there needs to be a counter protest. Generation Rescue definitely believes that Autism is caused by vaccines and is a disease and not a genetic condition. They must be shown that they are being divisive and bigoted against a culture that has benefitted mankind for longer than their precious thiomersal has been around.

RE: Jenna McCarthy was on CNN last night.

Well, a protest is good, but what about the image?

Is it me, or is this all based on the idea that autistic people are broken?

I think someone should also try to deal with that stereotype.

RE: Jenna McCarthy was on CNN last night.

Is Jim Carrey the autistic child's natural father? Is he that actor who does the really, really weird and exaggerated body language? If he is that actor, I've been wondering for years if he is on the spectrum, or maybe subclinical Tourettes, or both. Certainly doesn't seem neurotypical to me.

But, yes he is.
