What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Gallstone - 04-21-2012 11:01 PM I was just getting mad about some internet behavior I just witnessed. I hate being angry. Sometimes I will take my medication a bit earlier if I get angry (like now). Sometimes that helps. What do you do when you get angry? RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - skyblue1 - 04-21-2012 11:16 PM Internalize most of the time. When I do get mad visibly, its not pretty, for the person I am mad at. If in an argument, IRL, I get to smiling at you. You had better leave the room, cos I gotcha. Smiling during an argument seems to be very disarming, to the person being grinned at. Pisses them off even more, evidently. So I do my best, to keep it inside. That comes from age and life experience, I guess. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - skyblue1 - 04-21-2012 11:22 PM double post RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Xaisede - 04-22-2012 01:47 AM I breathe and vent about it on the net RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Hazel - 04-22-2012 01:55 AM I just let it happen, tantrums, crying etc. I don't know how to stop it, people suggest ways but I either forget them or don't want to use them when I'm upset. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - kevout2 - 04-22-2012 02:51 AM I swear and curse. In regular voice volume or shouting; I'm usually alone and; just plain and simply; in a foul mood. In public; such as waiting in line for a long time; I swear and curse under my breath. I wish I was; generally a happier person every day than what I actually am. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Alison - 04-22-2012 03:36 AM It depends. My husband tells me that I let a lot of stuff pass that I should react to, but then, I usually need to take time before I know how I feel about something. And a lot of subtext behaviour, sarcasm, etc, tends to fly under my radar anyway, I just don't pick up on it. On the other hand, if something is happening that needs an immediate reaction, I can assess the situation and react according to the rules, law, whatever, using that as a default judgement. And if I'm physically attacked, I can still defend myself with Tae Kwondo, although I'm more likely to put my back out now! Alison RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Xaisede - 04-22-2012 06:26 AM Stimming helps! Plus the Internet doesn't really effect me. But that is probably because I see the Internet as a playground for our true selves, and I can't be angry at other's behavior that probably mirrors mine. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - d_olson27 - 04-22-2012 07:32 AM I usually have to remove myself from the situation and think about something else. I find it kind of scary when I get to what I would call angry. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Gallstone - 04-22-2012 07:37 AM I find it scary to be angry too. Usually I just hold it in as long as I can, then explode and do something kind of crazy - like smash my head into walls and stuff. It's better just to avoid the stress as much as possible, but I'm too sensitive to always avoid anger. Sometimes I just sit alone and fume about all the things that make me angry and after a few hours I get these horrible rage headaches. I wonder what causes those. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Gallstone - 04-22-2012 04:51 PM Thanks for the link and advice, M! I see a therapist, maybe I should talk to him about anger. I always just hope more medication will cure me from negative feelings, but maybe I have to use multiple strategies to defeat my emotions. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - shrinkingviolet - 04-22-2012 08:53 PM Blasting music through my headphones, especially songs with angry lyrics. Concentrating hard on the music wears me out so I can calm down, although then I get depressed. Sometimes I will also have a meltdown, especially when there are too many people around and they won't shut up or leave me alone. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Gallstone - 04-22-2012 09:05 PM Heh, that's funny - when I get angry I have to listen to the most easy & happy music I can. I usually listen to death metal with a bit of classical thrown in, but since a recent flare up of depression that music is too abrasive and complex respectively. Now I only listen to simple pop music, like doo-wop. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Mordeth_kai - 05-11-2012 04:34 PM Hulk Smash! But seriously, I used to go into blind rages when I was younger, when I was 12 I once came to with about 15 adults trying to hold me back and I was pushing them across the gym floor until they would pick me up and carry me back a ways and I would fight my way back up and start pushing the group again, I didn't remember doing it, just getting punched by the people provoking me and coming to afterwards with everyone trying to hold me down and back. People stopped picking on me after that ^_^. I struggled with anger for a long time until I learned to forgive and let go. In high school I taught myself to blow things off, let things go and be extremely laid back, not the wisest choice academically, but I benefited from it quite a bit personally. Most people who know me now days consider me to be very gentle, easy going, and laid back, but at the same time no one tries to get on my bad side either (I'm 6'3, and no matter what I do or wear I am always at least a little intimidating). Until I dated and married a girl, who ,as a result of her own issues, would intentionally push every button she could find and try to provoke me I have not had any trouble with anger since my sophomore year in high school. Punched my last face, learned how to forgive and let go and its made all the difference. Also, it may be overdone, but ponder the meaning of the serenity prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. In life there are only 2 kinds of problems by this reasoning, those you can do something about and those you cannot. Ponder the issue in these terms and if you can do something then do it, and if you cannot then let it go. With people, always remember that you can do nothing to change the way they treat you, but always consider how you treat them. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Mordeth_kai - 05-11-2012 04:45 PM I also did not know I was diagnosed with autism until I was 18, I knew I was different but not why. I have never been on medication for autism and I believe that all social and behavioral problems can be improved, fixed, or changed as necessary through knowledge, understanding, and experience (I would also advocate behavioral therapy but I've never had that luxury to vouch for). Personally, I do not recommend medication as it is a temporary fix and a crutch, it may make things easier in the short term, but it does not benefit you, and in many cases it is detrimental to some degree, in the long term. The worst thing anyone can do to someone who is autistic, in my opinion and personal experience, is separate them from everyone else. You can learn and adapt, but not if the opportunity is taken away. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Suedehead - 05-11-2012 11:57 PM Shout and slam doors usually. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - nialll - 05-12-2012 03:49 AM either swear lots or pull my own hair or skin RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - awiddershinlife - 05-12-2012 05:26 AM I can reason for a while, but at some point I gotta get the heck outta dodge. after a break I can return cool, calm, and collected. The only place I have ever been bullied is at the work place, and I choose where I work carefully. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - LadiKapitan - 05-12-2012 05:35 AM I tend to repeat things constantly, non stop, and/or ignore the world around me, literally. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - EDoyle - 05-15-2012 01:07 AM Write a rant, and then read it. If it makes sense by the time I'm done reading it, I'll have calmed down and written a righteous rant. If I read it and it seems whiny and trivial, then I've successfully vented frustration while also doing some important self-criticism. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Some_Bloke - 05-15-2012 06:17 PM I swear and curse. Otherwise I go completely quiet and think, no scream inside my own head the swear words. I also doodle and write stuff down. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - nadeembi - 04-30-2013 01:27 AM Lol. I just run up and down the stairs and start doing pushups and squats. I used to obssess over it but now, I find that exercise can really help calm you down. RE: What Do You Do When You Get Angry? - Oxytoxin - 04-30-2013 03:58 AM I write down my angry violent fantasies.
