Do I have aspergers, or not? - marek - 09-19-2010 06:32 PM

1) I never understood how to make friends, or be friends with someone.
2) When I´m with someone more than a few minutes and I talk - and I talk a lot - my head starts to hurt. It´s like if the talking, or socializing was draining me, causing me pain.
3) when I look at something, or think about something, I tilt my head for no reason
4) my hearing is very good, I hear things that I´m not supposed to hear and I see, or notice little things, or details that others dont
5) I have obsessions. in primary school I was obsessed with dinosaurs and X-Files. now I am obsessed with translating comic books and writing about them. every week I write a short review of one comic book, or series. every week. even when I was sick and my head hurt, I did write something short and posted it. I had to. Couldnt help it
6) I dont know how to talk to people, or start conversation
7) If someone promises me something and doesnt keep his word, I get agressive. and I dont mean like jumping on someone, or beating someone. my brain cant accept the fact that people dont keep their promises. I also dont understand how can someone cheat, or lie.
8) I´m very sincere, sometimes too much.
9) I cant look too long in the eyes of a person I´m talking to.
9) I dont care about people, but if I can help someone, I will.

Hi Marek, and welcome.  :  Feel free to ignore dtx.

From what you say here, Asperger's is a possibility, but you would need to seek out an assessment for your self to be sure.  Some people are content to know about Asperger's and recognise it in themselves without feeling that a formal assessment or diagnosis is necessary.

I suggest you see a specialist to be honest.  It's always best.  Ignore dtx...the poster's comments should be ignored as they are either pointless and unhelpful (or both).

Note:  These are my 8 year old son's thoughts having read the OP.

I have AS and from what I can tell you don't have AS.

Some of the reasons you think you may have AS say that you do have AS but most of them are just things that aren't common but don't really mean you have AS.

I am not trying to be a ''snot'' but again I really do mean that you should see a specialist if you feel that you do.  People on AFF can not determine whether or not you have something. So I do think if you can, see a specialist or go to your doctor it's the best option for you.

when I was a boy we went to my cousins wedding. at dinner, or how you call it, we were seated and started to eat. after five minutes my head started killing me and I wanted to go home. I could not go home, because that would be rude, so I slept the whole night in our car. I always thought that it was really weird for a child to do something like that.

also, I work as a janitor and my work is scheduled - in my head - and I have everything planned. I will do this, that and I will be finished by then and so on. but when something disruptes my plan I get angry. thats also weird. everything must be by my inner order. and I hate changes.

Dtx's post is a lot funnier than it seemed at first.

Maybe we can't determine if you are autistic or not,  but I'm not sure that a "specialist" can either. I think most people could tell for themselves if they learned enough about it. Getting diagnosed can help if you ever need services or accommodations though.

i don't think it matters much about DTX, if he feels it's necessary he can start his own thread.  What this is, is about the OP or Original Poster in long form, and whether or not they have Asperger's.

Personally I find DTX's posts to be either pointless-stupid or unhelpful-stupid.  This is another example of these.  Perhaps I do not share your sense of humour Qwerty but that's just me and right now I've had enough with his posts like this.

anyway back to what is IMPORTANT; OP, good luck.  I hope you'll be able to talk to your doctor about a possible diagnosis.  Seriously, they are always a better option then you'll know for definite.

Well, I don't think there's much more we can say about that. It's certainly possible it's AS. Have you seen and done the Aspie Quiz?

Well, it's supposed to be a good test. Are there any AS groups in your area? Maybe email the NAS, if you need some help with getting a diagnosis? Depends how well you know your GP, if you think you can get them to refer you to a psychologist.

I´m from Slovakia, so that´s a no go.

Ah, sorry. Don't know what the routine would be over there. Guess they don't know much about AS? So, an online test might be the best you can do? Think there are some others, too, if that'd help a bit.

I did some other tests, on other sites and i got always the same result. Aspergers. well, it was worth a try.

Then, it does seem very likely! You've read about it and it makes sense to you? It covers the sort of stuff you posted about. Unless somebody knows Slovakia and can advise you better, you seem to have got as far as you can. Sorry but what else can I say!

yes, but i also noticed it is very much affected by confirmness bias - ergo- the subject looks for the answer, identifies easily the answers he/she's supposed to give and distort the perception of reality thinking that all the criteria fits very well... like hypocondriacs
