Hi folks!
As those of you who have seen pictures will know, I have rather long hair (you can stop being jealous soon, WfM, promise!
).As you may also know, I have a bit of a list of disabilities/disorders.
The upshot of this is that, for some time now, I have been finding it increasingly painful to care for my long hair and have decided that I really need it to be short.
This is where you wonderful people come in.
Rather than simply have a hair cut and have done with it, I would like to have it cut in public for Autistic Pride Day and raise some much-needed funds for Aspies For Freedom. AFF has been a wonderful resource for most of us; for me it has generated a virtual family where I can really be myself and has also given me some fantastic real-life friends.
For the moment, I will accept pledges on this thread or in PM if you would prefer to be anonymous. I promise never to publish the PMs and will delete them once I have notified everyone that the deed is done!
My Ninja son is flying out from the UK and will be here on Tuesday morning; I will be asking him to do the honours!
I promise to post lots of before/during/after photos! Unless someone pledges more money to stop me!
The actual donation/receipt of money will be done after APD when Gareth gets back, so pledges only for the time being!

Further update:
3 AM wigs rang back; they only make wigs for film/theatre. But they do pay for hair, so if I am unable to get anywhere with the Cancer Council tomorrow morning, I shall send my hair to them and get them to make out a cheque in favour of the Cancer Council. Is that a fair compromise, Ethel?

Update:
There is no charity collecting hair in Australia.
I shall be selling my hair to the commercial wig maker and the proceeds will be given to the Cancer Council ACT: The Wig Service.
I also hope to be allowed to collect money at the actual event which will also go to the same charity.

I'm really sorry I didn't thank you earlier, I have been very busy today - son number two (the 25 year old Martial Arts Instructor) arrived from England this morning!
I asked him if he would do the honours; and his reply made me very glad that I didn't give him prior warning.
He said that, if I had told him before he left, he would have brought a razor-sharp Samurai sword for the job!
And he even offered to lay my head on a block and wear a blindfold!
I hope he was joking....

Thank you to everyone for the compliments. I did have a bit of a cry the day after; not because I missed the hair, but because I was so overwhelmed by the way the whole thing snowballed.
Sometimes, without intending to, we do something that resonates with people; and it runs away with us, other people come on board and it grows hugely more than we expect. I really felt a connection with the good, light side of life, the universe and everything; I especially felt a connection with you guys!

I just paid. The paypal button is only for 5 pound donations. For other donations you have to pay via the paypal site paypal.com and use the sender as paypal@aspiesforfreedom.com apparently.
