That is really cool. I love how it gets it balance again on the ice and when it's kicked and the run and jump at the end was cool too. It did sound like a pack of bees though.

The reason it looks so creepy is because it has an inflexible spine and no visible "head" at the front.

They prefer wheeled models as gun-bots for some reason, though I can see several other uses for the kind of technology the Big Dog uses; wait until they build bigge models, complete with cockpits and weapons.

Another main reason why it is creepy (at least to me) is its structural symmetry... That is, the front legs are exactly the same as the back legs, just pointing the opposite direction. In another video of it they switched the front legs around so it could climb a hill easier, and that didn't look scary to me.

For a robot to be able to walk on ice and snow and constantly keep its balance, even when being kicked, is *amazing*!
Give it a few years, and we'll have the Six Million Dollar Man for *real*!

Thanks for bumping this, sky, what an amazing creation! I think it looks not so much like a "big dog" as a four-legged spider, and thought that slipping in the ice would be lessened if there were two stabilizing legs at each side specifically to help keep its balance for icy conditions. Also, had to watch the video without the sound on, since that constant buzzing of its operation set my teeth on edge. But apart from that, a fascinating construct, particularly as it was picking its way over rubble and jumping. It seems to be able to navigate by itself, since it was able to skip the white lines in the lab and not bump into trees. I'd be interested to know how that was done.

I would use one to keep people away from my house on halloween, and put a giant candy bowl out. CX. It can buzz louder and pace faster and head towards people if they come near it. LOL.
