I'm currently a student at Smith College in Massachusetts. I'm majoring in History, but my academic life far from takes up all of my time. I do a lot of creative stuff in my spare time, including world-building/free-style role playing, writing, drawing, composing/arranging/playing piano music, knitting and making plushies of fan, obscure and unpopular anime characters. I'm a big geek in many ways, liking a lot of different anime and manga such as Keroro Gunsou, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Love Hina, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Yu Yu Hakusho; novels by Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card and Gregory Maguire; Jhonen Vasquez stuff; internet cartoons and comics; and video games like Katamari Damacy, the original Spyro games and a few of the Final Fantasies.
As for me and Asperger's, or supposed Asperger's at least, I've been in therapy for most of my life due to various issues, but never got diagnosed with any psychological condition for more than a few years at most. I was on tons of medication for about six years and got just about every commonly given diagnosis except Asperger's/Autism. Ironically enough, some of my best friends growing up were Aspie, but it never occurred to me to think of myself as being such. It was only last year that my mom finally told me that she'd always thought that I might've been Aspie/HFA, but that my shrink wouldn't diagnose me because of my dad's not wanting me to have the label (I'm not going to go into my Corrupt Shrink and Doctor stories, though I could easily write pages on it). So, yeah. Reading through some of the literature and testimonies from people with the disorder, I can see why a diagnosis would've made sense for me. It probably would've been more helpful if I'd known this earlier in life, though. Ah well. I hope to make friends here, and so far it seems like a very welcoming, nice community. Huzzar.
I get lonely easily and am always looking for people to talk to, so if you want to discuss geekdom/fandom stuff, roleplay stuff, art, music, books, or just how weird and alien 99% of the world is, I'd be glad to hear from you. :D |
