Hi everyone, one of your members told me about this forum so I hope you don’t mind me registering and telling me about why I have.

I’m a researcher working with Elisabeth Hill and Jo Yarker from the Department of Psychology at the University of London. Together we are REALLY interested in knowing more about the experiences of (1) parents of children with autism spectrum disorders and (2) adults with autism spectrum disorders in the workplace.

We are particularly  interested in exploring how caring for a child with autism effects parents' employment decisions, and particularly questions about whether parents who must care for a child with ASD are supported at work in the same way that they might be if they were a long-term carer of a cancer patient or patient with dementia. We suspect that in many families one parent finds that they are unable to continue working, or has to take a job of a lower grade than they had previously. However, as far as we can see, this is an area that has not been researched. The implications for families of understanding what is happening and educating employers about this problem are huge. We are also interested in how adults with autism
navigate the world of work, and the impact that employment status  (either working, or not working) has on their mental health.

This is where you guys can help. We are running an on-line survey- would you be interested in participating? If so go to http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/autismandemployment and follow the links. All information is confidential and you can choose whether to leave contact details if you wish.  If you have any questions about this study, please contact us directly on 0207 919 7037, ps501rn@gold.ac.uk or ps502sh@gold.ac.uk,or e.hill@gold.ac.uk.

I hope to hear from some of you soon.
Rosie
Researchers have to get permission from Gareth first.
I have already e-mailed Gareth about this thread, don't know if the poster is authorized.
This seems to be reasonably ok - but I must point out that the recent surge in people posting to this research board is disturbing as the original intention was self-planned research projects. Sadly, nobody seemed willing to put in the work.
Hi Everyone,

I apologise that I didn't check with Gareth first (I now have done)- I didn't realise. I hope that I haven't caused any offence by doing so.
