Different versions, but many are based on the idea that Arthur was tricked into sexual relations with Morgana Le Fay (not knowing that she was his sister) and that they were only together for one night.
Mordred was Arthur's son in the French romances, on which most of our ideas of Arthuriana are based, but not in the original Celtic stories -- where he is generally Arthur's nephew. And he replaces Lancelot (an invention of the French) as the character who has an affair with Guinevere (also called Gwynhyffar or other such variations.)
Anyway...

Truthfully Arthur and Morgana weren't related at all by blood. Arthur's Father married Morgana's mother and then had a son named Byron by her. Morgana left after he married Gwen but came back after affair with Lance. That's when their son was concieved and Morgana raised him by herself.
No jerkyness intended I just had to set the record straight. There was nothing twisted about their relationship unless you have a problem with step siblings getting together.
