When my AS son was about that age, we had a hard time when there was a long day of "errands" around town. I learned to set them up in an order from least pleasant to most pleasant, so at each place I could tell him what was coming next, knowing that it would be even better than where we were. So at the bank I could say, "next we're going to the store and you can look at the toys for a while," then at the store I could say, "we're going to have lunch next and you can have an ice cream," then to end the day with something fun, "we're going to the park next and you can swing for a awhile." For us, scheduling things so that each following thing was a bit more fun made it easier for him to learn about "transitions" from place to place in a less threatening way.
What I wish I knew then--hang in there, things DO get easier over time!
