As there are a lot of college age people on this site I am sure won't be too hard to find ramen lovers. It's the best meal you can get for 10 cents. My favorite flavor is spring onion.
lol it has loads of sodium and monosodium glutamate, and almost 0 nutrients
Having said I can relate to uni food. There was guy that got very ill in uni, he only ate packaged noodles.
There are actually some pretty amazing recipes you can do for next to nothing, who knows you might impress somebody.
I like ramen but I don't eat it all that much anymore. And yeah, it was one of my stable foods back in college.
I like chicken Cup Noodles the best. And Easy Mac.
Always always always, when I'm sick or having a breakdown, I eat Ramen. Makes me feel better. It is the ultimate comfort food.
My favorite flavors are Shrimp and Oriental.
Considering how crappy they are nutrition-wise, I was stunned when I read the ingrediants and realized that the Shrimp flavor has real shrimp in it, not just artificial flavoring!
Smack Ramen - Hot and Spicy flavor... nothing beats Smack
I did recently buy the 24 pack of Chicken-flavor Cup Noodles from Costco, though. Kinda got hooked on those during my time in Japan. One of the factories I was at had a Cup Noodle (for whatever reason, "Noodle" is not plural on the product in Japan) vending machine.

Totally off topic, but- Duck, I love your signature.

I don't have any ramen around at the moment, so I can't check, but I remember being surprised at how much fiber and protein ramen actually has... it was better than I'd expected it to be.
It has a lot of salt, but most of it doesn't end up in my stomach anyway... either I use only part of the seasoning package or I have ramen soup but don't eat the water, so lots of the sodium gets thrown away.
It is pretty low on vitamins and minerals though... But most foods aren't nutritionally balanced... I wouldn't want to try living off of bread only either, or apples, or w/e.
You can stir-fry some nice dishes with ramen in them btw... you boil the ramen separately first and then add it to some stir-fried veggies and possibly other stuff.
One of my favorites: red bellpepper, broccoli, garlic, mushrooms, soy sauce, chicken or shrimp or eggs (or all of the above) and ramen. Throw some peanuts on top if you want.
You can also have ramen with white/green cabbage or chinese/napa cabbage. Yum.
All you need is something to boil the ramen in and a wok (okay, cutting board, knife, and something to stir with as well).
No thread about Ramen can be complete without a tip of the hat (or perhaps a respectful bow) to Momofuko Ando, founder if Nissin, who passed away in January (
wikipedia article).
I have two packs of ramen that I am apparently saving for some kind of armageddon since I bought them two years ago. Does ramen ever go bad?
I am a grad student, but I grew out of ramen and microwave dinners. If I need a quick and easy meal, I'll just have a hot dog or a sandwich. At least, then I can get some real meat, not just meat flavor.
Sorry, ramen fans.
I'm partial to them too - both the supermarket cheap ones and the proper ones I get from the Chinese and Philippine shops we have in Southampton.
And I always use chopsticks when eating them - it's not fun with a fork!!

I don't think ramen ever goes bad. In fact, I think ramen, along with cockroaches and Twinkies, would survive a nuclear holocaust.

Ha ha
Good laughs.
Hmm... I prefer udon.
My favourite is Kitsune-udon but I can't seem to find it outside of Japan.
But ramen is also yummy.
I love Ramen noodles. I used to put in a beaten egg and some frozen peas or other small pieces of frozen vegetables. I did worry about the calorie count though and it has so much salt and msg in it. The best thing about it is that it is so cheap and fills you up. Nothing else is so cheap and filling.
