I don't have that ability!  My psychiatrist stated for me to stay away from counseling <G>   BUT my friends state I am understanding and compassionate ,so I must have some redeeming qualities..Then they want to be my best friend and I run for the hills!   I counseled a widower old HS and neighborhood aquaintance for one year via emails. He was driving me nutz... my counselors said that was way to long , he was using me... I often get used by not saying anything because if I do , its like a dam breaking loose.. I hold it in.. so I sit there nod, give great advice and then want to go shoot myself for waisting my time with someone when they would not care..

Then I go to the class reunions and all these people come up and say "How I saved their life" "how I gave them strength" etc etc.. and I think.. Well maybe they appreciated me after all!  Who knows or understands NTs or anyone.. I surely don't I just give them advice about what I learned.  They either take it or not... What I can't stand is when you try to help someone who is constantly writing about pain. you offer advice and they turn on you... My knee jerk reaction is to say "SO ? GO jump in the river, most people don't like you anyway, that is why you are having problems! " <G> That is my aspie side... Hence I do not do professional counseling... <G> But I have too many friends and best friends to say I have not been compassionate and caring when it counted.  I just can't hold up the NT mask for too long and it takes all my energy... My husband said to enjoy my energy for myself and other things and let those who have problems seek others who really give a D*mn!" <G>  At our age , we get tired of hearing it over and over the same mistakes...

My husband is very compassionate and people just gravitate to him...like flies to honey.  Hard for me because I like solitude.

here the story: family dinner night is monday. last monday we had sherperds pie which i wasnt aware i didn't like cuz i never tryed it be fore well i tryed a little and found didnt like the taste.

problem: do i tell mom i didnt like it?if so how do i tell her?i dont want to hurt her feelings.if i tell her she might take it bad.

side note:
mom spent alot time making it and i'm a picky eater becuase of my AS though my family does no that. i have sense of smell issue among other things.this i just thought tasted bad.

If you are at home and a child ,I would tell her its not my fave... if you are an adult,, eat a spoonful, compliment her, and then leave early for a real meal <G>

well sometimes there are food i don't like the taste but in fact it has the taste it suppose it's the right and with it suppose it tastes good, even if for me it tastes bad, by example i hate ''Tamales'' and doesn't matter who makes it i don't like either.

maybe you can tell your mother that is the general taste of sherperds pie you don't like and tell her he had made a good work but it's just you don't like the taste of these specific meal, well the most important is tell her in a very nice way, i think she will understand, and maybe you can tell her just for prevent she will become a little hurt that you have liked the taste of another meals she makes, and you can mention some of it
face to face always is better to prevent missunderstandings Smile

may i you your words, ayreon?

i didnt understand that,, ??

you have permission of course , you don't need to ask it to me Smile i only hope have used the correct words because is still a little difficult for me write in english, many times i need to use a translater

if is easier for you in a letter then is right, still if you are nice telling or writing it to her i think she will take it good

I could not get enough of it as a little kid under 5.. I would steal  my mothers hamburger preparation from her bowl.. LOL I would pinch a piece or two.. once the neighborkids bought some fresh raw beef just to watch me eat it LOL.. Ilove it.. My mom told me about it and I barely remember.. I had to be 3 or 4...  It was great.. my mother said they did it behind her back but she found out...  She told me NOT TO take food from strangers.. I said I wanted it.. LOL

Steak Tartar I found to be delicious and its made with raw egg...

However I do not like raw egg on my salad... odd..but that is me.

She didn't make it just for you though.  It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the family to be limited to only the narrow range of things you like.  She probably noticed whether you ate it or not, especially if it was the first time she served it. I wouldn't mention it.
That's a good idea Hyke

if it's the '"I don't even know why I'm cooking anymore" you fear, you might try to help her out with that.

I think Aureon gave a nice way of telling her you don't like the dish.

But still, your mom might be at a loss what to cook the next day.

Help her out, if she wants to ofcourse.

Tell her your 18 now and want to learn to cook yourself.

You'll learn to make dishes you like. And your mom might appreciate it a lot when you make the effort to cook family dinner.

Maybe your mom hates the idea. But she might love it aswell.

Good idea and you can cook the meal you most like Tongue !
