Hi i tried to change my avatar to:

And i got this error

Thus far I have been only been able to determine that the url you enter must be a link to an actual image.
This might not make much sense the way I've said it so I'll put it this way.

You need to 'right click' on the image on the website
Select 'properties' or 'image properties' (dependant on browser)

then copy down the URL from the properties box. You may not see the whole url so highlight with your mouse then copy/paste.

If that doesn't work (which it should) I can't think what it would be that's causing the problem.

Looks to me like yours should work Abscot so I'm kinda stuck, sorry.

If you tried to upload, yetti, you would have got this message.
Uploading Avatars is locked, the administrators have their reasons. You have to use the URL slot to link to an image stored elsewhere - such as photobucket or imageshack.

URL linking seems to be misbehaving though.

Yeah, I just tried to change my avatar with no success.

Hopefully Gareth or Ant will be able to give some insight.

In the mean time people will have to make do with the 'default' or what they're currently using.

Anyone figured this out yet?

I'm just wondering if Ant was a typo for Amy of a weird kind or if it's short for antiphase.

This is indeed quite odd, it seems it "just works" for many people but for others doesn't with no common pattern. For those who it doesn't work for I am able to change avatars in the admin control panel without problems. Someone pester me on IRC to ask the MyBB developers about this - it may be time to update (Evevn though our copy of MyBB has tons of hacks).

Regarding the avatar thing this is probably a simple issue and if anyone knowledgable of PHP wants to throw together a function to check a URL is valid that works then paste it here i'll put it in.

We will not be updating MyBB because there's too many local mods. However, the avatar thing is trivial. The edit button is not a bug, it is disabled to prevent the old trick of people editing their posts and causing a lot of drama.

Write to Gareth with the URL for your avatar and he might be willing to insert it for you.  He did so for me.

OMG I have the same problem. I'm trying to change my avatar, but the error message I received was like this:

My account is activated, I've been a member for more than a whole year, yet I cannot change my avatar. Could someone help me? I'm trying to change my avatar before my computer is taken into a shop tomorrow.
