I think that we simply have more knowledge about ASD's. In a typical CAN commercial they say "before only 1 in 10 000 children where diagnosed with autism, now one in every 166 is diagnosed".

Imagine that only one in ten thousand people were diagnosed with an ASD, how much knowledge would we have of it then? The on in 166 number comes from funny research that I wouldn't call valid. There where 5 of, well... 166 multiplied with 5, found in the research.
Some of the people who intruduce themselves here tell that they got the dx after being told about it from another person who happen to have heard about it.
One in every two class?

Could there be certain aspie-personalities that are difficult to spot as autistic?

Einstein was quoted once as saying he couldn't relate to people at all and felt estranged from them all except maybe his family.

Yes, I held that too Ellen. Here's a link to article on the BBC website talking about Einstein and Autism.

I find it funny that basically every neuro-atypical community (schizophrenics, bipolars, etc.) include Einstein into their populations.

They can't have Einstein...he's mine! Smile

Hey this is a good subject. Sorry I just discovered this thread. My opinion is that 1 in 58 is a very high figure and probably not entirely accurate.

I think that 1 in 166 probably is more realistic. My opinion only.
I think that ASD in the past was often misdiagnosed or people were just a bit weird.

Speaking about weird people from the past. A lot of people think Albert Einstein was Autistic. I don't think he was. I would be interested if anyone had proof on this though. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

rossco

Simen no problem there surely. Does it matter if he was or wasn't? If he was then then OK so what? It can't be proved either way. He is dead anyhow, who is going to a psych test on a dead guy? We would have little in medical records and only anecdotes to go on, hardly any way to evidence it short of going back in time. Who is the member getting bent out of shape with this?

rossco

Oh great I just scrolled up the page. You are arguing against Timelord and wondering why you are not getting a sensible conclusion to the argument. The reason is "You are arguing against Timelord". Do bother it is pointless. I hope you don't mind me looking back at the previous posts and having a laugh.
So has called you stupid or an idiot yet or threatened to take criminal proceedings against you? Yeah that's right.
Raise your hands non-threateningly, walk backwards and make no threatening movements.
If this guy wants to believe the sky is green, the sea is purple and the Earth is square, it is OK. If he tells you they are facts not opinions - just agree. It is not worth the trauma of trying to convince reasonableness.
Plenty of other members of the forum to have a talk with. You can even have a difference of opinion with most people....not Timelord though.

My conclusion is that Einstein could definitely not have been an ordinary person.

You are dead right! Great scientist. He would be a great bloke to claim as one of our own. Maybe there are some more budding scientists who are diagnosed who can be the Einstein of ourgeneration. That would be really cool. Thoughts anyone?

I just re-read the whole "argument" and its ridiculous. I'm getting so tired of reading Timelord's arguments that I'll leave here soon and go somewhere else. To talk down and insult people, to tell them to withdraw their posts and kiss *** is enough. I've had enough of this guy. He argued with me continuously about the Hating Autism Blogger running for President. I think we all know how absurd that sounds. But no, the hating autism blogger said he would so Timelord believes him and won't back down from people saying its not and never will be true.

Well let me tell you something, back up your facts. You can say whatever pops in your head, doesn't make it fact. Cite your sources, the books, the authors. I don't care if you memorized the Bible, tell me the damn passages to look at before saying lame comments like "I remember it so its fact, thats the best evidence you'll get." Please get off having the God Complex and acting all high and mighty. Someone has to put you in your place, especially when you discount medical professionals, several...opinions.

You didn't know Einstein personally did you? Did you? You can't diagnose someone post posthumously without interviewing them and those close to them. Its 110% speculation and the medical records comment was irrational as well.

People also don't always divorce because of cheating, in fact there are thousands of couples who stay together after cheating occurs.

I am just absolutely sick of reading this guy's arguments, because right now he's doing nothing other than trolling. He's starting and continuing arguments none other than to boost his post count. Really, he's irritated around 7 members now. Its enough. Your brain isn't fact, fact is fact.

My sentiments exactly. I couldn't agree more!

wilky

Timelord,

You would be comical if you weren't so serious!
I've read through this thread and I'm amazed, not only by what you have said to Simen, but by your double standards and hypocracy.
I apologise to everyone who is tired of reading arguments between Timelord and myself but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and watch him arrogantly voice is opinions, attacking and insulting anyone who does not conform to his way of thinking, and then playing the injured party (yet again).

You have consistently put words into Simen's mouth, so you can then go on to demand something he hasn't even said to be withdrawn. I am talking about the way you have manipulated your argument with him to suggest that he has called you a liar. LOL Phil, you couldn't get anymore transparent if you tried!

Quote:
And why don't you just call me a liar and be done with it? It's hardly my fault if you haven't studied history.

Quote:
And yes you are calling me a liar - by demanding evidence instead of trusting what I've learnt."

Quote:
That equals calling me a liar. Enough said.

Quote:
And yes you are calling me a liar - by demanding evidence instead of trusting what I've learnt.

Need I go on?
Despite Simen's repeated explanation and denial, you still insist he has called you a liar:

Quote:
If I believed you were a liar, I would have called you a liar. Instead, I call you two things:

(1) A person who has views that contradict mine
(2) A person who has yet to substantiate his claims

"That equals calling me a liar. Enough said." (Timelord)

No matter how many times you say he called you a liar, it will not make it true, and others who read this thread will agree, Simen has not called you a liar.

I find it so ironic and hypocritical that you've came on this thread and within a short time have managed to whinge on about being called an "Idiot" and asking for this to be withdrawn, when you've done the same thing yourself:

Quote:
RE: Have you seen this blog???

You don't know the law, idiot.

You obviously approve of the abuse and vilification that is contained in the Hating Autism blog. Fine. You are against us in that case. Get out of this forum.

Quote:
That's a sad view of humans if I ever saw one.

You also want Simens non offensive post (above) withdrawn!

Quote:
I can see there's no point talking to you about this, Simen. You have got a lot to learn it seems. The above quote was highly offensive to me and I ask that it be withdrawn.

Who do you think you are? Asking for all these things to be withdrawn?
You said to me a while ago:

Quote:
Wilky, I have avoided this word up until now, but now I'm going to use it in relation to you and you alone.

STUPID.

Did I ask for this or any other of your offensive comments to be withdrawn? NO because I'm an adult who can take some flack without whinging.
And while I'm here, I believe you were unsulted by me using the word "Bull sh*t", and made a big issue of the difference between my usage of the word as so much more offensive than your usage of "BS".
Like I said before, I don't think there's any difference between sayin "Bull sh*t" and "BS".
Do you still believe there is such a big difference between the two, because if you do then how do you justify this:

Quote:
RE: One in 58 might have an ASD in the UK

What's not worth the effort is me even talking to you about this - because you refuse to f***ing listen!! So why bother? Now do the board (if you wouldn't mind) as well as me a favour and shut up!

Who's the "STUPID" one now.

rossco

Timelord is Wilky. He is a liar too. LOL

rossco

Sorry let me retract Timelord isn't stupid he just often says some really incredibly stupid things that leave the forum wondering if he has a true appreciation of reality AND he is not a liar as he believe some of the ridiculous things he says or manages in an arrogant, self-righteous way to promote his opinions and machination as pure and others as wrong. His "facts" are indisputable and others are wrong or slanderous.

I apologise Timelord calling you out for being stupid and lying is not right. The rules and definitions of normal society and societal behaviour do not apply to you because you don't have a good mental grasp on the world.

I just hope that there aren't too many unsuspecting Simen's out there who try and run into a civilised debate with Timelord. I encourage all people who wish to object, debate or argue with Timelord not to bother. Not worth it. Just roll your eyes shake your head and let it pass unquestioned. Laugh out loud are the craziness of the suggestion or premise but do not engage.

Plenty of other members on this forum here that are happy to share and learn. Simen seems smart, he will find them.

Just some thoughts about Einstein:

- He didn't speak before he was 4, which is a common trait of HFA.

- I think I heard from a documentary that there were found rather abnormally large neurons somewhere in Einstein's brain, but I can't recall where. I've also heard that autistics often have an uncontrolled overgrowth of neurons in the frontal cortex.

- I don't know but I guess Einstein's many lovers where after him after he became famous. He was a celebrity in his time you know.

Not evidence ofcourse, one can't really prove if anyone is autistic alive or dead these days.

I consider it highly likely Einstein was an aspie; anecdotal evidence does suggest he displayed many  autistic-like traits--but its impossible to say 100% post mortem.

Although I did hear Einstein’s brain was ’pickled for posterity’. When scientists are able to  conclusively confirm what genes are involved in AS--they could extract DNA and test it--then we’d know for certain.

1 in 58...1 in a 100... 1 in a 1000--its all very subjective and changes depending on what diagnostic criteria used.
