Is anyone here a fan of this show?  (USA)  It took a while for me to get drawn in, but now I see Aspieness there every episode, and I really, really like it.  I'm not into the violence, but I love mysteries, and using math to solve mysteries is really cool, in my opinion.  And the show just has a very positive attitude towards extremely bright and eccentric people, which is refreshing to say the least.

It's aired outside the US - like here in Norway. Unfortunately, they've now decided to send it at something like 11:30pm, which is a time I really should be going to bed (although I rarely do).

I wonder where you see the aspieness - perhaps in episodes that haven't aired over here yet? As far as I've seen, all the characters, despite their eccentricity, are remarkably well-adjusted socially. In fact, I think the characters on the show are a lot more overbearing with eccentrics than people are in real life.

What do you mean by "overbearing with eccentrics"?  Like patronizing?  There are definitely those types.  I'm talking about the character Charlie Epps mostly, but also his friend (sorry forgot his name, typical Aspie!) who went on the space shuttle.  Larry, I think is his name.  That guy is strange and brilliant.  Maybe I'm stretching the Aspie stereotype here.  It's just extremely rare to find ANY TV show in the US that puts any type of positive spin on brainpower.  Generally it's all about looking pretty.  And yes, Charlie has a girlfriend, and she is pretty, but she's also a super-geek, and I just really like that alot.

No. Like "accepting their behavior". Maybe it has to do with the fact that they all seem to be brilliant and that they couldn't do without them.

Well, I quite like it. Both the positive spin on brainpower and the likable, quirky characters. However, I think there's not much aspieness to find. Either the reactions are a little unrealistic (I'd have thought that in the real world, some of the characters would get a lot more response for being, shall we say, quirky) or the characters are genuinely well-fit in the social world, and either way, there's not much of an accurate portrayal of AS characteristics. Which, by the way, is fine, because I'm sure that's not what they're aiming for.

I like that show too. The next series is starting on NZ telly tomorrow, and I'm gonna watch it! Big Grin
I miss the guy who left on the space shuttle - I've loved him since he played a nerdy wizard apprentice... "Biscuit" on Ally McBeal was the only character I liked on that show...

Numbers usually brings up interesting math ideas but it does bother me at times - like when it gets preachy and/or contemplative at the end of the episode where they treat the audience as if we're dumb and didn't get the 'moral' of the story. Tongue  Or when the Agents all respond to the mathematicians with dumb, blank stares - indicating that this is where the complicated math is explained for the dumb viewers.

As one of the dumb viewers (Not personally so bad at Maths, but was never really interested enough to study complex theory) I would wager that agents giving blank stares when confronted by complex mathematical theories is not wholly unrealistic. Smile

I love NUMB3RS!! I'm an Aspie who loves human behavior and puzzles so I love tuning in with my mom ^^ My favorite character's Charlie (likes Aspie boys or boys with brains they actually use) he gives a lot of neat insights and Larry's interjections are awesome too. Suprisingly Aspies are treated well on the show which makes me very happy ^^
Although I wanted Charlie with an Aspie girl not an NT -.-,
Couldn't she be an Aspie too?  Or, what makes you think she's NT?
