Yoik anyone?

The Yoik is a traditional form of singing practiced by the Saami. A Yoik tried to capture the essence of a person, place or thing. It is said that singer yoiks something--they don�t yoik about something.

Maybe the yoik music is an acquired taste - there is a tone there that is hard for me to listen to - the trumpets hurt my ears.

My wife's multi-talented friend is Claire Dallison (she uses her name professionally so I think its ok to give it out). She�s original from my home town of Nottingham, but now lives in California. She�s been singing and writing music for a very long time and can now give a very polished performance. My wife isn't overly keen of her new stuff and instead prefers the ballads she use to sing when she worked in theatre.

Yeah, I think the yoik is a bit of an acquired taste lol. Posted that more for socio-political reason--but I do still like how it sound.
