i'm thinking about buying a new book which one do you recommend me?

i like Angels and Demons from Dan Brown, The Silmarillion from J.R.R. Tolkien, and all the books from Edgar A. Poe Smile
I quite like Ben Elton books--he's addresses modern day issues in a fun and imaginative way.

His recent book 'Post Mortem' is good--its about school bullying, a serial killer and friendsreunited.
I like Anne Rice's books about vampires. These books have a lot of feeling in them. Also the idea of living forever is in them.
I would recommend any book on animal psychology (one of my favorite subjects to read about).

Have you read the other J.R.R. Tolkien books?  Silmarillion I did not like as much as his other books.

Well I like most of the books that Banana Yoshimoto has written, as well as "Gold Rush" by Miri Yu...
I see you're into philosophy and art, so I'd recommend Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R Hofstaedter.
Terry Pratchett is awesome.
J.V.Jones is good too.
uhmm...
Thanks for the suggestions Smile

actually not i haven't, but maybe i will buy the HObbit or the lord of the rings later, i love the movies :p

I read the complete works of E. A. Poe during summer break when I was 14yo. I also memorized one of his poems (although I've forgotten it since):

Alone

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Don't ask me what it means, but I like(d) it.

Anyway, haven't read the other books you mentioned. Some books I liked though: "Friday", "The moon is a harsh mistress" and "Stranger in a strange land" by Heinlein, and the Foundation trilogy by Asimov.
Oh, and I recommend libraries. Smile
I read Silmarillion, I think there was a juwel of a love story between the many pages of fantasy world history (how the different races emigrated etc. etc.).

It depends on what you like, really, and precisely because you liked those books, you might not like books that sound like them. I know I get both bored and irritated when an author fails to veil his references and inspirations and a book becomes a clone of a better work I've read before.

If you liked Angels and Demons and Silmarillion, you could check out (if you haven't already) the more well-known books by those authors - in this case, The Da Vinci Code and Lord of the Rings. Dan Brown seems to repeat his basic characters and plotlines in each book, whereas Tolkien is a master storyteller, and his stories (in my humble opinion) never get old, perhaps precisely because they are really old, being based on old stories such as the Kalevala, Beowulf and Norse mythology.

Other than that, it depends. What and how much I read goes in waves. If you like speculative fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, etc.) I could point you to a dozen web resources and books. Other genres, while I've read many other books, not so much.
