Yeah, I'm having the same problem as well. It also seems that the site works for other people even when it doesn't work for me (a 404 error), judging by when some of these posts were made. This is the first time I've been able to log on in a couple days.

A friend that owns a forum told me that "Since it's a popular site it may be the host throttles bandwidth, as in only allows so much to be used each hour/day/week etc. That would be why some people can get through and some can't, the host is dropping requests/connections."

I thought about this and I've noticed some of the threads have an unusually high number of views, in the thousands. Perhaps they contain key word combinations that get hit through people surfing via search engines who arent' looking for an AS site but are clicking through seeking a popular topic like "Hilary Duff" or "join army".
I'm having the same problems, and it doesn't seem to be related to time of day or anything else (and I'm pretty damn good at spotting patterns). I was thinking hackers or spammers or some other evildoers, possibly the I Hate Autism blogger types! We need some feedback from AMY and GARETH!! How do we do that? It's getting quite depressing, really, and I'd like to see the problem addressed!
There was only one new post listed for Sunday June 24, so that was probably a bad day for everyone. Before today, my last log-on was June 21, so I know I tried quite a few times before giving up after that. It's very depressing to get that not responding message, so I stop trying!
I couldn't get on to the site this morning, but it is fine now.

I'd like to see this problem fixed... at the same time we're seeing a lot of new users here, the site is down half the time. Not very inviting for them, or for the seasoned veterans like myself.

It has to do with the actual server's bandwidth Batman, nothing any of us here can help. The site is popular and so that's why. No one is "hogging bandwidth" its just that the site is popular (as in lots of members and guests) so that can be causing it, because there are other websites run on the servers. I don't know much about running a website, but that's all I know from what I've been told.
There seems a similar problem with Wrongplanet. I keep on getting mySQL errors (whatever that means) after being in Wrongplanet for a short while. Their website is huuuuge. Would moving some of the older stuff to an archive help with the bandwidth problem?
Some threads refer to events that have happened 2-3 years ago and no more comment is necessary so surely they could be shunted off to an archived area (like what happened with the old Aspergia stuff).
I think it must be the curebies with some selected computer experts/hackers trying to bother the servers, or something.

I've experienced no problems in the past week. Usually I sign on around 7:30 and again at 21:00 EDT. Before that it was down about 50% of the time when I tried.
I thought I'd let the Admins know that there is a secret hacking program that uses bandwidth of forums or websites everyday, for example downloading a terabtye a week over and over etc. A lot of mods and admins don't know about it, and it was a forum owner who told me. I'm not saying thats whats happening here but its a possibility.
I feel bad that its costing so much. Would a donation fund be set up?
