I have a local neurologist of considerable influence who has been trying to understand the rise in incidence statistics on Autism Diagnosis. Lately he's been looking into the mercury immunization theory (something I've heard some of you call bunk) among others.  I'm thinking someone Aspie on site may have happened upon this as one of their passions and ended up researching it extensively.... if so would you mind dropping me some useful sites or studies to direct the guy to.  He in the only child neurologist in a city of about 80,000 so his impact is substantial. Clueing him in to whatever is the truth may help a lot of others.  Anybody.....

There are mentioning of death in many of the hits I do on chelation on this site.

Still some few people here seem to approve that some very few autistic people could have had their condition worsened by heavy metal, while that number is not very high.

Ofcourse there are many stories of people who live happily ever after chelation, and many who do it with "curing herbs" (weren't there an advert flying around some time ago?) aswell people who didn't see the same improvement.

Personally, my parents have given me a diet without milk, and say that I'm "so much better" after I stopped drinking milk. Did I feel happier? Well I got away from the bullying at primary simultaneosly. Those enzyme tablets are way too expensive. I was skeptic to NeuroZym all from the beginning, have to say that I had got an introduction to neurodiversity and theory-of-scam just before that.
By the way, I have never taken those enzyme tablets.

She has followed and analyzed this meticulously.  In fact, her blog ultimately led me to discover this site.

This guy actively debunks parts or all of the mercury causation theory regularly:  http://www.kevinleitch.co.uk/wp/
In particular take a look at this article:  http://www.kevinleitch.co.uk/wp/?p=601
To understand his blog you have to know who a few people are:
- Andrew Wakefield:  The guy who first suggested the MMR connection to autism, which sparked off the debate on thimerosal in vaccines being a cause of autism.  He purposefully reported false positives as positives and no lab since has been able to duplicate his results.
- Michelle Cedillo:  An autistic girl whose parents are petitioning the courts for money, claiming she is "vaccine injured".
- Katie Wright:  Daughter of the founders of Autism Speaks, mother of an autistic kid who, for years, she has put on every quack therapy you can think of.  Frequently acts as a publicity magnet for quack doctors by advocating their treatments and arguing with her parents.
- Tariq Nadama:  First autistic child to die from chelation therapy.
Apparently CAN is still funding mercury related studies.   "Cellular, Physiological and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Alterations in CNS Development Caused by Exposure to Clinically-Relevant Levels of Mercury-Containing Compounds (Pilot Project Grant) by Mark Noble, Ph.D., University of Rochester Medical Center"  and "The Overlap Between Celiac Disease and Autism - Potential Inflammatory Responses Exacerabated by Exposure to Toxicants Such as Mercury?  (Pilot Project Grant) by Allen J. Rosenspire, Ph.D., Wayne State University"
