How can this man even think about writing this! I definitaly disagree with him, I don't know why he can even think this. I've got a cousin who's got a form of autism, and I can assure you, my uncle and aunt aren't drunks or drug addicts!

If anyone has any connections to any legal practitioners in the US who are prepaed to assist - I think it's about time someone shut that slanderous blog down. It's ability to abuse the first amendment boggles the mind!!

I don't have any connections in the US, but I definitely agree that they have to shut down that blog.

Seriously, wouldn't it be simpler just to stop reading that blog?

Timelord, please note my signature.

I know it's hard to resist engaging with psychos and idiots -- god knows I've done it a few times -- but in this case it's really pointless. The guy's site is so over-the-top crazy that it actually makes the case that the Mercury-Poisoning crowd is insane. If you frequent his site -- and involve this site with him -- it makes us all look crazy by association.

Leave him alone. Anyone reading his blog can see he's a lunatic.

Couldn't have put it better myself. That's exactly it. If you keep going there (I read a lot of your posts) than you are "feeding the troll." I don't think any of us will respond to him. We can know and think he's crazy, but Maxy Bear is right, if you argue with crazy people -- an outsider can't tell the difference."

Yeah, that's always the danger and the very tempting reason to argue with them. But believe me, this guy's blog is so insane he is his own worst advertisement.

He's like the notorious Reverend Fred Phelps who shows up at gay funerals with all his "Death to Fags" and "Fags Burn in Hell" signs -- he only serves to make the anti-gay fundies look like monsters and psychopaths.

So you saw the Michael Moore episode on this as well? With the "Gay Bus" where they fought them with pride.

Wow, its as if he does a world tour of gay-bashing. How sad. That's awesome that you ridiculed him though. Have you seen the Michael Moore thing?
Its a complete shame that exist people like this!!!
who is the ignorant??
Timelord, the man will not be elected President and he's not dangerous. Well he's dangerous to his family because he's off centre, but he won't be able to do anything. He's just a lunatic posting hateful comments.

How did you find out about the site? Google?

It seems that most of these people are teens with the exception of Timelord. So, one would have to discount their outrage as just youthful ignorance. These kids can't help it that they have idiots for parents. It's not their fault that nobody ever cared enough about them to try to help them recover from their disability.

I have to wonder what Timelord is doing trying to rile up a bunch of teenagers. Why would any adult start hanging around with teens? What do cops think about adults who become too chummy with teenagers?

Some of us sometimes prob'ly wish we were teens!!! Tongue

Now you're making me feel old (37).

Just as long as I am too old for the Selective Service, though, I don't mind.   When I was some of these kids' age I prayed I'd make it to over 35.  Now I'm praying for them to make it.  When I see Koppel on Discovery, Our Children's Children's War, I get very scared for them.

This guy seems kind of tragic to me.  He's obviously stuck in this really destructive pattern of denial about his kid's autism, to the point where it's probably going to do his kid more harm than good, and all in the name of helping him.  It's scary, but not necessarily surprising as responses go.  I wonder, however, how long he'd be able to keep that attitude up without the artificial environment of encouragement he's finding through his blog.  Even our own protests against him are just fuel for his self-righteous idea of himself as his child's savior.  What he needs far more than encouragement or reprobation, far more than even some "cure" for his kid, is some serious therapy.
Timelord where did you get the idea that he has been nominated for President?
I read his blog.  It is sattire.  He is not running for anything.

Max, you underestimate the infuence Best has.
He's too dangerous to be left alone as unimportant. Hitler was the same, and people in Germany DID try to silence him for the same reason. He would have risen to power a lot quicker than he did if they hadn't.

Oh - and yes he is insane.

Best = Hitler?

And JOHN BEST is insane?

Am I the only one here who can see the irony here! lol

I finally got around to reading this guys blog.

Just for another take on things (and I know I'm going to get blasted for this) - I think it's probably a good thing to have such an obvious nutjob on the curbie's side... It certainly can't do their cause much good.

This guy doesn't seem to have the support base to make any sort of impact by himself, and he can only make the rest of them look bad by association.

Just my 2 cents.

Amanda Baggs is sure getting a lot of bad publicity there.
Couldn't she?

But yes - I agree that if someone can turn Best into a liability for GR. The trouble is who will do it? I'm certainly in no position to do anything being on the other side of the Pacific Ocean! The most I can do is what I've done - alert as many people as I can to the danger he poses, and put material on my Wiki to show him in the bad light he deserves.

The trick would be to refer to him as "a representative of Generation Rescue" whenever you talk about issues relating to the blog in public forums. Even better, in broader discussions fo autistic issues, you could say "one advocate of the pro-cure movement states that...". This has the double-whammy of taking power away from him by denying him an individual existance, and bringing the larger anti-autistic groups into disrepute.

In fact, next time I write a letter to the editor, I might do exactly that. *grins*

I've been advised to ignore them - and with good reason. I think it's about time they did the same thing, and ignored me if I upset them so much. Or at least just do what Wilky did on another thread (which resembled something I did on another forum a few years ago - and it worked a treat as well). That was easy to not respond to. I laughed at it.

Oh, nice try Timlord but this doesn't wash with me.
I'm not as "stupid" or "idiotic" as you presume I am.
Nor have I been "gagged" by Amy (your reference, not mine).

This is the way I see you trying to silence those who you've "upset" on this forum with your above statement.

I expect I can get away with posting any offensive crap to anyone on this forum without worry of any repercussions or recrimination from those I have offended.
And If anyone is upset by my personally offensive posts, then instead of objecting or addressing me personally, I'd suggest they hush their mouths and ignore me.
This way I don't have to answer to anyone!

I think that's closer to the truth of the matter.

Have you never heard the saying, "You get what you give"?

You have excellent translation skills Wilky.  You really nailed this one.
