an official diagnosis would be validation, and "proof on paper" that you're not faking it, or just being an SOB!
Also, if Aspergers gained true status as a disbility, the paperwork will be esseential.
And if you have to explaine it to a co-worker, boss, or (heaven forbid) a judge, I'd like to be able to cough up some documentation!
Back when I was 15 & first found out about Aspergers, I did some research and found lists of Aspie traits that seemed to fit me. Then when I went in for diagnosis, the guy parroted one of the lists of traits back to me almost word for word!
I was dx'd as Aspie, but I still felt like I put more trust in my self-diagnosis...
*grins* Random trivia - I just found out that the closest match to "Aspergers" in the dictionary is "Superchargers".
There are other conditions that need to be ruled out, not just AS itself. PDD-NOS comes to mind, if the person didn't think you were quite meeting the Asperger criteria, but definitely having Some traits. But I'm not sure if PDD-NOS is just a USA thing, or if the Euro version of ICD has a similar condition.
I also think a single session is too slight for adequate diagnosis, I saw my psychologist for several hour long sessions on different days/months before he rendered an AS diagnosis. (Even brought the parents in once!)
Did you happen to get the MMPI-2 done also? Seems to me that if they are only using SBC et al tests then they might not be generalist enough to think that at least a schizoaffective or ...typal diagnosis might be active.
This one did exist Sarajoke, It was not a figment of your imagination. I'm not sorry that its gone though.
