It's funny I feel like I'm getting mix messages.

I was told by the man that diagnosised me that I was Asperger, yes other ASs state that I'm misdiagnosised. Huh, it's just so weird. I guess my symtoms are not as apparent because most people that know of it are suprised that I am an Aspie, I mean I do interact well with people, but then again, I don't like them...it accaully bad mindset really, because I see people as something for me to study, I love anthropology so I see my interactions with people like a giant field study.

I'm afriad since my diagnosis that I'm Rping my symtoms. Because I love to Rp... I don't know..one quiz states that I'm not very Aspie the other says I am. Very confusing
Which symptoms do you have?

Don't take online tests too seriously. A diagnosis can only be done in person, and should be done with a careful analysis of your past and present by qualified professionals.

This means that what other aspies might say will reflect their experience with AS, and that is not necessarily transferrable to other people with AS. It can be valuable to hear what others say about their experience, but my experience with online forums and such (I've never been to any aspie social gatherings - the whole concept is a bit absurd, considering the defining criteria of AS) a lot, perhaps the majority of what people write doesn't resonate with my own experience. It doesn't mean that I'm wrong or that they're wrong, it simply means that we're different and experience the same variations in neurology in different ways, just like people in general experience normal neurology in different ways.

Think about it - how much of what NTs experience can be easily transferred to other NTs? I guess it's not a lot. What I'm trying to say is that in all groups there is natural variation, and within the group there might be even bigger variations than between the group taken as a whole and everyone else. I read somewhere that the genetic differences within so-called human races is greater than the genetic differences between them.
I see, thats what my therapist said. Hmmm maybe I'm overreacting. I do that alot....Though it's something too look at.

Well the few that I can think of off the top of my head are
-I have an obbsessive interest in mythology, anthropology, linguistics and meterology
-I hate certian sounds and smells bright lights bother me
-I have social phobias that manfest in pantic attacks
-I don't have any speech problems except when I'm very nervous and I stutter
-I don't make very good eye conntact
-I have a hard time reading body langauge
-I take things either too seriously and misinterprate

Is that all you have? Do you have anymore symptoms you can think of?
I've not been so sure about my diagnosis either, even though its official. I can ofcourse not relate to everything at the forums but alot.

I was pretty convinced further that I was aspie when I saw photos of me in a socially uncomfortable situation. Just a tip.

I once made a thread "Afraid you might be NT?".

Simply because I can relate to alot of what that other aspies tell I don't feel an absolute need to leave the topic, because I see that I can receive support anyway from people who has indeed experienced similar situations.
There are more symtoms, such heat senstivity and implusivity, selictive mutism and most of what the DSM VI covers. I think

My diagnosis is offical like Ivar's But I can relate to what he means. I have felt unsure about my diagnosis, but since I'm reading Tony Atwood's Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome, I can really see what my symtoms are and it's like looking in a book about me. I learned about Selective Mutism from the book and how it's common with girls. I was like "wow thats so me!"

But I do have a good sense of humor, I get sarcasm, and I can interact well in social groups in work

I wouldn't place too much value in the quiz since Asperger's goes beyond personality, and the quiz is mostly a measure of personality.

Asperger's had traits that go beyond personality and into the PDD/ autistic spectrum of behaviour.

Asperger's has a delayed modeling of social skills that come naturally to others. Children with Asperger's may model their accent based on stereotypes, or based on a regional dialect not common to their area. Also, they may avoid eye contact and have difficulty in engaging in conversation outside their restricted range of interests.

"Theory of Mind"

In one test a child is placed in a room with two adults. One adult leaves the room while the child engages in a conversation with the first adult. When the second adult reenters the room the child will engage in the same conversation with the second adult as though the second adult had never left the room.

It's not that the child is psychotic, but rather, the child has little concept that everyone doesn't think like him. Nevertheless, the child continues to perseverate on his topic of interest.

I hope that my previous post didn't quash interest in your story, since that was not the desired effect.

I too have found myself in the same situation as far as studying people but limiting my interaction with them. My advice is to make sure that your career goals are realistic or you will have to start over as I had to.

About your symptoms: You stated in one post that you stim which is most certainly a sign of autism spectrum. I stim as well but only with the hands, biting my fingers and cuticles which I find most annoying. Yet, this is probably one the reasons that I got my diagnosis as being AS versus simply a personality variation.

One thing I do, which may be a stim, is if I look at someone's face and they notice, I'll put my hand on my face and start rubbing/scratching nervously.

Generally a lot of times I'm uncomfortable in close contact with people, I'll start twitching.

By myself, when laying down most often, I'll rub my hands against my legs, or bounce my legs and/or feet (I do this a lot.)  It seems to help me calm down.  I'll also bounce my legs in public, a lot of times I'm not aware I'm doing it.

Apparently whatever twitches I've done over the years have become too routine, possibly, for me to even notice.

Correction, I also rub my fingers in the same hand and pick at the skin of my thumb using an aposing finger, thus, it appears as though my hands are in semi-constant motion. Until recently I thought that this was only a sign of a nervous disorder though I now believe that it could be a primary characteristic of autism.

When I feel more stressed, as at work, I have less affect and have trouble controlling the stim, so that I must appear rather odd.

Enough about me. This is only an example of how an aspie might appear to others.
I have a lot of stims. And will reading Attwood, I figured out what my speical interest might be...(and just discovered both of them recently...well sorta) Apparently Wolves might tie into my Therianthropy and speificlly Pan-European history and mythology exspecially Celtic mythology.
Most interesting. I just looked up therianthropy and must admit that I've always had a few articles of Egyptology, including Horus, about.

I don't know much about the Celts and therianthropy, though I'v read about Cu-Chulainn.
The Cucullian cycle is crazy, but most of the Welsh and Irish Hero-Cycles are crazy :3
