Does anyone think that the character Monk, in the popular American television series by that name, has Asperger's.

I was once called this by one of my professors during a little panic over a test. Soon I found the series enjoyable.

Is the series too stereotypical?
He is OCD, but I don't think he's an Aspie.

That show sickens me, infact I can't stand it... there's no logic, there's no real reasoning, it's complete BS... die MONK!!!!!!!!!!!!

OCD could go with Asperger's. He keeps his whole environment spotlessly clean. For example, if he had a pool he probably would scrub and sanitize that to perfection as well.Wink

Also, he has affect and social issues that he attempts to solve by getting out of himself in a way. For example, he takes on different roles and plays roles such as as an employee in "Mr. Monk Goes to the Office".

In that one he attempts to join what he calls, "The Gang at the Office."

I agree with you, the only Aspie Traits I find in him, are associated with OCD as well.

I don't think so. I gotten a couple people into Monk. One thing I think is so funny and rediculess is the fact that everyone but Monk notices sometimes, certain things that are so obvious and out in the open. Then they say "wow Monk the great detective did it again". It's like "Gya! Do they need eye egsaminations or something? DUH!" I don't personaly think real world people would miss alot of them that easily as most the characters in the series do.

That, is why it's called "T.V".

I agree.

I dislike Monk, the series makes it seem fun / possible however I believe he'd be overrun by his OCD and eventually go mad.
As an OCD sufferer, I really dislike this series too, Monk is really very ill with his OCD, such that he needs a carer to function, which is really not at all usual with OCD, I just find it implausible that anyone that ill could manage being a detective too.
I think Monk has such a ridiculous mixture of real and fictitious neurological conditions that whatever he has would have to be named after him.  I recently saw an episode in which he recalled from memory his own birth.  Nonetheless, as the hero of the show, he should be expected to have some superhuman capabilities, even if they are nothing more than "miraculous" findings of clues that would be easily spotted in real life.  It's all for the sake of entertainment, which is then for the sake of advertisers' money.
